Do you ever buy something, then redo it, then redo the redo? That’s me in a nutshell. So here’s the dealio on the fireplace screen. This is what it looked like when it came home with me. Then I decided to change the fabric. Here is how I did it the first time.
I cut fabric the size and shape of the fireplace screen.
Here’s the close up on the trim.
I attached it using temporary fabric adhesive. I used fabric glue to attach the trim around the edge of the fabric.
So here’s the fireplace screen in front of the fireplace.
And the fireplace screen was done… for a few week. And then…
I decided to try something else.
I added a coffee bean bad cut to size.
I’m done now, totally done.
Here you can see the incredible detail on the antique French fireplace screen. I really think it is walnut, which I never seen except in antique furniture.
And there you have it. The fireplace screen done 2 ways. I’m done. Well I’m not done. True confession, I am redoing it one more time, but it isn’t done yet. I’ll show you when it is.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who changes things all of the time.

The coffee bean sack worked perfect, though I do love the fabric pattern of the first one.

I’m looking for a real French gray to use on furniture. What paint would you suggest?
Anita says

I love that I am not the only one who does this: I moved into a new place in Dec. 2013 and had all the window treatments done, shower curtains hung within a month and really liked it. Now 10 months later I have re-done all of the window treatments and altered and remade shower curtains Still re-doing! LOL.
Enjoy your blog posts!

Goodness! I change things so much that I’m afraid people think I have a disorder of some kind! So, you are NOT the only one! I think it’s just because you’re creative and need to experiment with different looks. At least I think that’s why I change things around so much. If I knew how to sew like you I would probably change things even more than I do already. I like that fireplace screen. It’s so unique and I like how you’re able to give it so many different looks.

Why do you need a fireplace screen at all? I like it without, to show off the beauty of your moldings on your fireplace. Sometimes more is too much….

Oh love them both! Such a beautiful screen.

I would have left it as is.

Gurllll, I never knew what my house would look like when I got off the schoolbus. Mama would change all the furniture around, paint something, sew something and generally make a “silk purse out of a sow’s ear”. You’d bump into furniture that wasn’t there that morning. Hehe. At least I come by it honest…she thought nothing of painting a room, throwing up some wallpaper and making matching drapes. I’m not as good at it as she was or you bloggers are, but I have my moments. *smile* With a houseful of kids and little money to spare, she made a beautiful home for us. And that’s what I strive to do too. Lucky me, we now have the Internet and all it’s many helpful places like this one to inspire us, instruct us and generally all around make things better. Thank you and your sisters for sharing your many talents with us.

How I long for a beautiful French farmhouse. My husband and I downsized into a condo about two years ago and I am still struggling with how to add that charm. I am right now installing a maple hdwd floor and that is a good start. But, I need help with a layout and determining what upholstered pieces to buy. I also have a few cherished 18th century reproductions I would like to work in. Do you counsel from afar? as I am in Michigan. You interiors are so inspiring!
Anita says
Yes I do Carolk. Feel free to email me for more information. I would be happy to talk to you. Anita (at) cedarhillfarmhouse.com

Anita dear,
I am in my mid 70’a and still going strong. Relocating in a few years to be closer to my
daughter. No more white kitchens for me. I am planning on a Country French Kitchen.
Moving to a condo it is going to be just the challenge that I thrive on. I’ll simply knock
down walls and create what I want. Your blog is such an inspiration for me.
