French Facelift for my Dining Room 2

By Anita 33 Comments

I am so happy with the changes in my dining room.  Here are more of the details of my French facelift on a budget.

The French plaque (about $20) and the wooden tote boxes (the set was $32) came from Antique Farmhouse.  If you aren’t familiar with Antique Farmhouse, the way it works is that they have just a few deals each week. When those are sold, they are gone, so if you see it, and you like it… BUY it.  The prices are discounted, so it’s like a TJ Maxx online.  I don’t make any money if you buy from Antique Farmhouse, so I’m just sharing a great source.

I love these gray tote boxes with the French script.

The angel was stuck in a corner upstairs, so it was fun to bring her downstairs.

When I sold my old chairs, and bought my new French chairs, click here to see post, I had some extra money left, so I bought an armoire for my daugther’s room. To make room for the armoire, this piece came downstairs to the dining room. It was originally a bar, but I used in upstairs to hide a TV.  Now it is being used to hold dishes and linens.

I bought this original oil painting years ago, and it was a major splurge.  The dealer told me it was from Europe, but didn’t know a lot more about it.  It reminded me of my two girls.  When my youngest saw it, she said, “Mommy, that’s you and me.”  I smiled, and said, “That’s right Dear,” no need to spoil a sweet moment.

It is a pretty large painting and takes up most of the wall.

These soft creamy roses added a nice touch to the room I thought.

Here’s a look at the room from another direction.  That’s a vintage feedsack on the table with a vintage silver tray and other vintage items.

Here’s another before of the room.

To see the French face-lift for my dining room part I, click here.

I just love my new room.  And even though the chairs and just a few other things were changed, it feels totally different for me.  Total cost of redo – $300 for the chairs and $50 for the tote boxes and French plaque.  But when you consider my old chairs sold for $1200, you could say I made money on the deal.  Don’t ask what I paid for the old chairs originally, because friends don’t ask those kinds of questions.  That’s like asking me what I spilled on my shirt.  It’s best to just pretend that you didn’t see anything.  It just works better that way.  And by the way, you look marvelous!!  Again, let’s not ruin things by asking how I know, I just do.

I love how light and airy your dining room seems now. It was pretty before but the new chairs really brighten it up. Think of the old chairs as an investment that didn’t pan out. Hey, a lot of stocks loose money every day, right?

    Anita,
Love shopping the house for new home decor pieces! The “upstairs” cabinet looks fabulous in the dining room. Adore the vignette with the angel! I agree, the painting looks like a mother and daughter …on Cedar Hill Ranch!
    Light, bright, fresh…a marvelous transformation!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

Hi. I love your dining room and especially the chairs. I share your obsession and I am currently on the hunt for new dining chairs. I would paint them , but hubby is strongly against it. He really gives me a lot of liberty otherwise. Hmm, what to do? Hopefully the universe will bring me the answer. Meanwhile, I will pin yours and gaze at them from time to time. Thanks for sharing your lovely home!
