Antique Mirror

By Anita 25 Comments

So I was cruising Craigslist the other day, and saw this amazing wood and gesso mirror, and the owner wasn’t asking that much considering it was a 40 inch wide mirror.

It was made with gesso and wood; a century’s old technique no longer used.  It’s just easier and much cheaper now to make frames out of resin.

This mirror had lots of age cracks.

I love all of this chippy detail.

I had this mirror on the wall in the dining room when I took these photos.

Since then, I found the most wonderful mirror at Round Top, and this one went donw. It will be the mirror in the downstairs bath of our new home!

I love the aged look and all the chipped paint. This mirror has a story to tell, yet it seems to be a quiet presence on the wall. It will look lovely in its new home – can’t wait to see those photos!

I absolutely love this. The age adds so much caharm. I have one very similar but much newer and it just doesn’t have the same charm!
