What’s a ‘riser’? Oh you know, it’s that thingy you use to make something a bit taller. I got this one from Round Top. It’s not old, just reproduction, but it is concrete and very heavy.
I’m using it as something to elevate the little cloche filled with dried roses. A riser though can be anything really, so long as it is flat and you can put something on top of it.
Below I used a stack of plates like a riser.
Below I used a few vintage books as a riser. Since both busts are the same size, I thought it would look better to have one elevated.
You could also use a brick, a box or a block of wood as a riser.
I do love the detail on this piece. I placed a little Beatrix Potter book underneath the cloche to hold the roses in.
I’ve got the entire set. There was a bigger column at Round Top, but I didn’t know where I would put it. It was really lovely; now I wish I had gotten it. But my new rule is no purchase unless you know where it is going before you buy it. I know it’s my own rule, but I don’t like it one bit!
Thanks for the good ideas! I need to follow your rules on buying, I buy decorative items first and then figure out on how to use them. I have my staging area in basement filled with such items. I do buy what I love, it’s just that I love too much!

Sorry to hear you have not been well. I use my kindle as a sleep aid, that is if the book is not too exciting, then I just keep reading. Many a time I awake to find it is bed with me!

I am so glad you gave “risers” its name. I never knew what to call them but they help make vignettes more appealing by not having everything on one level. A small riser like your cement one would be good for houseplants on tables. This way the tables would not get damp every time the plant got watered. There would be no loss of the table’s finish. I am always keeping an eye out for things that can be used as a riser. I am firm believer in having things at different levels. I admire that you can stick to your rule about not purchasing an item unless you know where it is going to go. There is no way I could do that.
Risers are such a good idea to add height or interest. I especially like the look of books used as risers. Your little vignettes are so pretty. Thanks for sharing them.
