I’ve been so busy with everything, that I admit I have put things like curtains and rugs on the back burner at my new house. That’s understandable with all that I have going on, but I finally decided it was time to get a new rug for the breakfast room. It’s a bright sunny spot, but lacked much color. Curtains are impossible in here because of the plate racks on either side of the windows. Rugs are a great way to add color to a room in a subtle way.
So I decided to add a rug for a bit of color in here.

You may think we bloggers always know the outcome of every decorating decision, but we don’t. Some things I think will be awesome, aren’t and some things I am not sure about are wow’s. I honestly thought the rug would make a difference, but it made a much bigger difference in the room, than I expected.
It really came alive! I love flat weave wool rugs, and I just fell in love with this one from Birch Lane. I think it made an amazing difference in the room. Since my house is mostly neutral, I like adding a spot of color with the rugs. The room still feels fairly neutral and soft, while the color adds interest. Neutral works best with a touch of color I’m finding out. Some people are concerned about using wool rugs in a dining area, but I have used wool rugs for ages at my old house with no problems.
Pretty rug Anita and I don’t think you need curtains with those beautiful plate racks. It would take away from them.

I am wanting a Turkish type rug faded and worn looking as if it is beached and faded. Yet wanting to keep that cost down. I had a friend who bought a copy cat Turkish rug and took it out in her driveway and with soapy water and bleach she washed and faded her rug beautifully. I am willing to do this if I can find the right rug and price.

I would get a rug that is at least a foot bigger all the way around, so if your table is 3×5, then you would want a rug that is 5×7.

That rug is fabulous!…Great choice…just love that shade of blue….looks great in the room!!!
The rug looks lovely, it really lifts the space and I love the colours, I am a bit of a blue and white fan. I have just moved my gorgeous Turkish rug to my living room from my office and now my office looks bare, this is a reminder to get a replacement rug. Unfortunately I am in New Zealand so will have to look local but will definitely check that companies products out.
I agree we bloggers can sometimes have difficulty making decisions and I believe that is down to our passion for creating that perfect look and also the fact that we are inspired by so many options.
I am currently having shutters installed in the bedroom. It is three panes wide and I don’t know whether to have a hinged middle shutter or fixed in place. If I have hinged it means that there will be a slight gap in the hinged one where it meets the other shutter…yet on the other side there will be no gap where it meets the single hinged shutter. Not sure if this makes any sense at all, hard to explain. The other option is a fixed middle shutter and hinged on either side but the middle one can be removed if I want to clean the windows..any suggestions?
