What Color is that Wall and More Questions Answered

By Anita 41 Comments

I get a lot of questions, and the funny thing is that often I get the same questions asked over and over again. Sadly the questions are not ‘why are you so cute’ and ‘how do you stay so thin’ but ‘what color paint did you use’ or ‘what kind of floors do you have’. It’s okay. I mean my feelings aren’t hurt.   When I go for a walk with my husband, honestly every time we walk down the street, someone says, “She’s so BEAUTIFUL!” Seriously they do! Of course they are talking about our collie and not me, so see? I get it!

Okay now to answer those most asked questions —

For those looking for oatmeal, white, or natural linen bedding there are some sellers on eBay from eastern Europe whose linen is wonderful and inexpensive in comparison to US linens. You just need to wash them a couple times before using, which I did in cool water without soap. I wanted natural linen after seeing the city bedroom and I’m so happy I have it now.

My question is…..do you think that linen on reupholstered furniture gets wrinkled? I bought a yard of a polyester look alike linen to try on a chair but was not a big fan. I have 12 chairs plus a chaise lounge that i want to redo in linen but my seamstress says it will not look tailored? I was told to try drop clothes becauae that is a big trend now. What do you think? I love your taste!!!

Lisa, it depends on the item. If it is a loose cushion, it will wrinkle. If it is on an attached cushion, it won’t. But I like the wrinkles, and prefer 100% linen. Drop cloth is fine also. It really depends on the chair. I usually use 100% linen for almost everything. If it is for a table where people will be eating, you might prefer an outdoor fabric (not linen) that will not stain so badly.

Where did you get that trifold window divider thing behind the bed you placed at an angle? Also, what is that piece called? I’ve searched high and low online and can’t find anything with windows like that. I want to place my bed at an angle and would love something like this behind it!

Anita, I just wanted to let you know about another Sherwin Williams color that is terrific. I use it when I don’t want the blue in agreeable gray. It’s called canvas tan and it looks great in rooms with windows. Might not like it in a darker room though. Just wanted to share that with you.

    Bonjour Anita,

Thanks for all of the wonderful inspirational posts. I greatly admire your strength and your style. Thanks for sharing.

How big are your island lights? And what are the dimensions of your island? My island is 100″x 62.5″ and my two island lights are 11″ in circumference- they have 3 candle lights with white leaves & crystals . It think that’s too small. They are available in a 5 candle version which is about 8″ bigger. Would love your opinion.

    All the best. Amicalement,
    Heidi

    Hi Anita,

I have searched your blog about the appliances in your city house but cannot find a post where you discussed then. I am curious to know which range you have? Do you like it? We are about to embark on a kitchen renovation and purchasing professional appliances so I am wondering if you did any research at the time you purchased yours. I realize you were building and designing your whole house so it may not have been as much of a priority for you. If you have any general knowledge or opinion from others then I am interested in hearing it. Your kitchen is beautiful and I want the same for my end result.

    Thank you so much!
