Tres Elegant French Armoire

By Anita 45 Comments

I recently discovered the place on the web where you can buy stuff directly from individuals. it’s called Craigslist.  Huh?  What??? You’ve already heard of it??? Really?  Am I the last one to know about this glorious place where one can find a French armoire for less than $400???

That’s right, she wanted less than $400 for it.  When I saw this armoire, I did not pass GO, I went straight over to buy this sweet puppy.

I was a little concerned that it wouldn’t fit in my SUV.  I prayed, we hoisted it up and BINGO, it went straight in with less than an inch to spare on each side.

And do you know the best part???

The lovely lady I bought it from, actually had already painted it this wonderful gray color, added the white accents, AND distressed it.

All I had to do was get it home, and up the stairs without the help of my husband who hates to move furniture, so I did pay a friend to move it up the stairs for me, but of course I did not include that $ in the price quoted above.

It must be old, can you see it came with its own cobwebs?

I moved my daughter’s TV and DVD player into the armoire.  They were in this piece.  I moved this bar (it was originally made to be a bar)  downstairs to the dining room. I’m currently storing my tea and some linens in there.

You can see it in its new home in the photo below. Click here to see more of the dining room.

So, I’m so happy I found this new armoire for my daughter’s room.

When I told my friend Peggy about the armoire, she wanted pictures; she ALWAYS wants pictures.  When I sent the photos she said that it looked terrible in this room. I thought, WHAT????  I was surprised, since Peggy and I usually have the same taste.  If I love it, so does she, and vice versa.  Then she said that it would look so much better in her house.  Ha, ha Peggy,  you are TOO FUNNY, but you are not getting this armoire!

My bo peep used Craig’s List a lot in Lubbock and College Station…maybe it began as that kind of thing, but I browse it from time to time and there is some cool stuff…I’ve been wanting to dip my feet in the waters of putting stuff on to get rid of it!

btw…this is a success story! because it is NEAT! Color too!

I LOVE craigslist! I found an amazing four poster bed for $300 – STILL amazed every time I look at it. I’m refurnishing our entire master bedroom via craigslist. The bed wasn’t in my original plan – but it was too good to pass up.

I’m sticking with my original comment – it would look much better in my house. It would look SOOOO GOOD in my house! It does, however, look good in Leesie’s bedroom but, when you get tired of it (please get tired of it), remember me!

Just tonight I was thinking I need to pull up Craig’s List and take a look, again. I need tables. But it always seems to be such a chore. Like searching through Goodwill for that elusive treasure. But it worked for you! What a beautiful armoire. You did good, girl!

Love Craig’s list and my older daughter’s are addicted to it for furnishing their new homes. You are in trouble now, you won’t believe the great finds. You were lucky on your first try. The scale is perfect for your daughter’s room, she is one lucky girl.

Living in a smaller town means the Craigslist deals are few and far between. I would have to search a bigger city to find something like this. It’s perfect in your daughter’s room. I don’t know how you keep up with 2 homes…I can hardly keep up with one. :o)
