Surprise Woodland Breakfast

By Anita 16 Comments

Before it got so blasted hot here, I planned a surprise for my teenager daughter, breakfast for the two of us back in the woods at Cedar Hill.

It was quite a hike from the house, so I kept the table simple, since I could only carry so much.  Months earlier, I had found this wondeful table and chairs at the auction.  (Click here and here to see other auction finds.)  I thought it would be fun to have a little hide-away back in the woods, so I had tucked the table and chairs back here under a large live oak.

I set out a tea towel for our tablecloth, and spread out a few dishes, with coffee, strawberries, and croissants.

Our centerpiece was an old vintage blue mason jar filled with wildflowers.

Once I had it all set up, I texted my daughter inviting her to have coffee and croissants with me at our little picnic spot.  (She knew where the table was back in the woods.)  She said that she was still in her pj’s, and I said, “So what?”  So, down the hill she came until she found the place.  “Yum!” she said.  Okay, it was a teenager version of “yum” but I knew just what she meant.  Since she wasn’t dressed, she requested no pictures. (She is normally quite comfortable in front of the camera.)

Here’s a photo of her hot pink boots.

Since our surprise breakfast, I have painted the table and chairs, and I’ll share the new look in an upcoming post.

    Anita,
Precious memories for you and your daughter in the making!!! This is a romantic venture of the bond between mother and child. My son, now grown, and I adore telling of the place in time when he and I shared a similar breakfast in our country kitchen. He was a sophomore in college. A stolen moment between mother and child forever etched in our memory…priceless. In the years to come this photo of the boots will bring smiles to both your faces!
    Fondly,
    Pat

Anita, this is a charming idea. Love your little spot in the woods. I’m thrilled to find your blog. I popped over from Kim’s at Savvy Southern Style. I’m now your newest follower and a fellow Texan. Hope you are surviving the heat at Cedar Hill Ranch. ~ sarah
