I thought it was time for another mountain house post. Here is the living room as it was when we moved in. I know some of you were unhappy with the asymmetrical room, but there was some method to the madness on the architect’s part.
The fireplace is on the ‘living room’ side of the room, while the other side of the room is the ‘dining room’ side.
Here are some of the pieces I brought from Texas with me. I planned to put the bookcase below between the two windows, but didn’t end up doing that.
We also brought this bench with us and the sofa (you see the back of it.)
So we ended up adding the daybed when the bench and sofa were removed. That opened up the space here in Texas.
Below is what it looks like at the mountains. The bookcase will go above the sofa. I’m not sure if it got hung yet, but it’s on someone’s to do list. Just checked, nope not done yet.
Yes that space looks bare and it will be great when the bookcase is mounted on the wall. I’ll put white dishes in it.
One of the projects on my list is to paint the fireplace mantel. When we downsize we plan to put stone all the way up the fireplace to the ceiling. Or we might use limestone on it. It is still being debated, if you know what I mean. I was told the stone was more of a mountain look by a certain someone.
We were excited to finally get a TV mounted over the fireplace with the wiring going behind the wall. Yay! And we got high speed internet set up!!
The trunk was from our back porch at the farm.
Here is the view looking down on the room. You can see that half of the room is living, and half is dining. I think we’ll end up with a sofa and two chairs instead of the bench, but that will have to wait.

Below you can see the view from the sofa. The kitchen is in the back on the right. Yes I have lots I want to do to the kitchen. And yes I plan to paint the cabinets. I know a reader already got on to me for not painting the kitchen cabinets yet. Having just a week in the house, it’s a miracle we got everything done that did happen. There is no way we could have painted the cabinets ourselves or even paid someone to do it by the time we left. I’m getting bids from painters right now, so hopefully we’ll have some progress before summer. (Still wincing over the bids, ouch.) I really want new countertops, but I plan to change the configuration of the kitchen so we are going to wait on that.

If you read my blog much, you will probably recognize a lot of things in the house.

Anita, I can no longer view your postings in their entirety with the right side of your photos and text cut off.
This is not happening with any other blog to which I subscribe and I wanted to let you know about the problem.

It just started happening to me, too.

It looks beautiful! A certain someone is right about the stone being more “mountain” but you both have to be happy with what YOU live with, right:) Hope you had a beautiful Mother’s day!!!

Tip, I had my kitchen doors and drawers painted off site. Then I painted rest. It is a big savings. We had bought a used home with worn cabinets. Cost about 40.00 a piece.
Plus paint to paint the boxes (by me). Maybe realitor or rental agent can let them in when the are ready to install. Love my new kitchen! Hope this helps.

Thanks Ruth, great advice.

Thanks for letting me know Joan, what browser are you using? I am trying to get it fixed, but the tech team can’t replicate the problem.

You mountain Home is beautiful and I love everything you have accomplished. Sometimes you have to live in it a while before you can make major changes. But I am sure whatever you do will look terrific.
Have a wonderful week.
