New Look, Old Chairs

By Anita 17 Comments

You might have seen these chairs on my blog before.

But here’s what they looked like when I got them.  They were a gift from my friend Peggy.  I love these chairs, but wanted to make a few changes. (And yes, Peggy knew I would probably make some changes when she gave them to me.)

The first thing I did was to recover them. I love toile, but wanted to use a neutral linen fabric, so I removed the black and white toile.

Then I used the linen fabric left over from my daybed slipcovers, click here to see post.

After stapling on the fabric, I trimmed the excess.

Next I tackled the paint job.
I used Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in Old White, and then distressed the finish using sand paper and antiquing wax.  You can also make your own chalk paint, with the recipe found here.  The information on the wax I used can also be found at that link.

I love fabrics and paint, so when I get a project that includes both, I’m happy.

They look great! I like the ‘before’ version, too, but the ‘after’ version is so serene and inviting!

    Have a good weekend.

The chairs look great! I like the fabric choice that you made. I am a fan of toile myself.

WOW – you did a great job on the chairs. “I would have painted them also. They look so much better painted white.
