So if you are thinking of starting your own business, the road will be rocky. You will want to quit. People will scoff at you. You will question your sanity.
Since people ask, I thought I would share a few things I have learned along the way. Here are my thoughts on being an entrepreneur.
- Failure is part of the journey. You will fail. This is normal. Be prepared.
2. Determination is vital. Since you will fail at some point, you need to be determined to keep moving. I am convinced that the difference between successful entrepreneurs and people who fail is determination and drive to continue even when things go wrong.
3. Serve people first. Don’t let your first thought be about riches and fame. They might come, but they are not good reasons to start a business. The truly successful businesses are those that strive to serve, to help people. They need to solve a problem for someone.
4. Make sure your business is something you are passionate about. You will be spending a lot of time on this business probably so you better like it. If it isn’t something you are passionate about, then it will be difficult to be persistent.
Now I wanted to update you on donations to Summer House. To date, I have given $731.00 to Summer House in donations. Woo Hoo!!! I give a dollar for every item sold through my online store. I sold a ton at Round Top, but I really don’t know how many items I sold, so this number does not include those sales. This is something near and dear to my heart. My daughter will be going there soon. We are working through the process right now. I am partnering with them to create some artwork, and I’ll have an update on that soon.
I have a space at Heights Antiques on Yale, and that is where I am selling my larger items.

This was like a message from God, the timing couldn’t have come any closer to my need to hear this. I’m just getting into the project of starting my own home staging business and am getting some negative feedback from (some) friends and family. Thank you for your perfectly timed message to forge ahead. Just what I needed today.

I love the new items! So many pretty things. I love the tips for starting a business. I think one to add to this is timing. I know I want to jump in with both feet when I have a new idea and it’s better to put on the breaks and think and plan more. Thanks for the wise words.

Oh yes…words of wisdom for sure. Sometimes you ask yourself WHAT ARE YOU DOING? But for me when I turn around and see a piece of furniture of anything that can be re-purposed the wheels begin to turn.
Or you see a customer looking at that can of paint or glaze and you just have to tell them everything you can of different projects that they can accomplish, it is rewarding, when they complete those projects.
Love your site.
