Feathering My New Nest

By Anita 27 Comments

I know I told Mr. CH that I wouldn’t buy furniture for the new house, until we moved in.  You know, like George on Seinfeld said, “It’s not a lie, if YOU believe it.”  Yes, I believed it… really.  But it turned out to be a lie. Well that seems like a harsh word, so maybe I’ll refer to it as an untruth I accidentally told. Yes, I think I like that characterization.

This chair will go at the foot of our bed in the new house. There isn’t room for it at the foot of the bed in this house.

That’s why this chair is currently sitting in the dining room.  Yes it’s a little crammed in here, with the Restoration Hardware piece, and dining table that will go in the new dining room,

the armoire that is going in the breakfast room,

two of these needlepoint chairs that will go in my new bedroom (Oops, did I forget to mention there are two of these chairs?)

and the vanity that I have yet to paint, which will go in my new bedroom right under a big window.  Here’s a photo of the vanity at the thrift store.

(I’m painting the vanity and bench, then I’ll recover the bench seat.)  Guess what?  This thrift store is just a few miles from my new house!  Actually there are three, count ’em, 3 thrift stores within a mile or two of my new house, along with lots of antique stores and restaurants.  It’s going to be a whole new adventure.

I’m planning to leave these chairs the way they are.

On another note, I just wanted you to know how much I laugh and smile reading your comments. Ya’ll totally crack me up.  It really makes my day when you leave a comment, especially a funny one. In the last post, here, I said that Mr. CH had a tear in his eye thinking about all of the food I was going to cook with my new (expensive) range. Carol suggested that maybe the tear had to do with wondering how he was going to pay for it.  Oh my… good times. This is one of the many reasons why I love ya’ll so much.  *smile*

Cute story….I truly think that men or Hubby’s already know that when they say No…..an we agree…..especially when it comes to decorating.

Is a lie. They know, that we’re appeasing them. Telling them what they want to hear. Like us….Honey hows my butt look in these jeans? Ohh wifey your butt looks amazing….

Little white lie to keep the peace….LOL

Beautiful chair or should I say chairs. You have such pretty pieces and three thrift stores will be mighty dangerous for the mister’s wallet.

I can tell you right now that I’d never in a million years stick to a statement of not buying stuff for a new house till it was finished! LOL! My home would be stuffed to overflowing with great finds that I just KNEW would be great for the new house!!!!

    Anita,
Sorry if you hear me laughing…I just read Pinky’s comment!!! Ha! Ha! Ha!( The Snoopy laugh here!)
On a more serious note now… I agree if you see something for the new house you should get it! Many, too, too many times, I waited…only to find someone else had the same taste and NO hesitation! Thus my treasure was NO WHERE in sight upon my return. The buyers remorse is usually remedied with Craig’s List or a Tag $ale. Most times you can recover the price you paid…sometimes even more!!!
Oh, I love the vanity and am excited that you’ve chosen gray paint for its update!!!
Please know I would never make fun of you, dear friend!!! But sometimes your writing and situation tickles my funny bone!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

Anita, I’m in love with your chairs. My motto is “There is always room for things you love.” 3 thrifts, antique stores, restaurants……..get the guest room ready. I’m planning a shopping trip. ‘-)

You can never have too many chairs. We once had a storage room just for chairs – weird but true. We have dinner in the garden every year and never have to rent chairs – 40 people, no problem. I know that this makes me the cat-lady of the furniture world, but I’m no likely to give up the addiction.
Three thrift shops within striking distance – lucky you!

Oh they are lovely… I couldn’t have walked away from them either! I have a rule, to get furniture I have to know where it is going in the house, you know where they are going… in the new house. The only problem you might have is the neighbors might think you are opening a shop! hehehe! Have a great weekend.
