Chippy Cottage Cabinet

By Anita 29 Comments

I have a little white cabinet in my kitchen.  I’ve had it a long time, but have recently updated it with inherited things.  First, I’ll show a photo of the cabinet before.

The dishes in the cabinet are vintage American-made Skyline hand-painted pottery.  I love the green ivy on them.  I have a few cups, saucers, small bowls, and a sugar and creamer in here.  Below is a small, hand-painted pottery jug from, you guessed it, my MIL. I don’t know much about this piece, but it is probably from some of their overseas travels.

The angel is also from my MIL, and I don’t know much about it either. I am guessing she is Swiss or German, made from real wood, and old.

Behind the angel is a Wedgewood Strawberry clock.  When my MIL and FIL celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, I threw them a party at our house.  This is one of the hostess gifts my MIL gave me at the time.  She said that she gave me a clock because she appreciated that the party took a lot of my time.  She was right too, since I made all of the food for the party myself.  Oh my, I don’t think I would do that again. Does that mean I am getting old??

I love all of character of this piece with it’s chippy paint, and rustic finish.

It has a primitive closure for the door.

The Hummel figurine was also from my MIL.   The hand-made pottery plate behind it is from North Caorlina. They make these pieces by pressing flowers into the clay before it is fired.  Then the paint the piece the color of the flowers used to make the impressions.

Oh and if you are wondering where I got the cabinet, I’ll tell you.  I bought it new, over ten years ago, from Ballard Designs. Although it fools people all of the time.  Everyone assumes it is old, but it really isn’t.

Lovin the cabinet, like everyone else I would have never thought the cabinet was just 10 years old. Looks like something from a great Grandmothers attic.

This looks amazingly similar to one I have in my bathroom over the loo! I adore it and have it filled with apothecary bottles and seashells. Adore the chippiness on yours. It’s just perfect! 🙂
