Back Porch Breakfast Bar

By Anita 37 Comments

We do love living on our back porch.  It’s getting too hot during the day to dine alfresco, but breakfast is still a great time to enjoy the breezes and the chirping birds.  So I was pretty excited when Mr. CH FINALLY helped me hang a shelf back here.

This burgundy shelf was in the house but was replaced when I found this pine one (click here) at the Thrift Store (click here.)

When I took the burgundy shelf down, I wondered what I would do with it, and then I thought that it would be great to have on the back porch.  It seemed the perfect size for breakfast items. I notice a long time ago, that my guests always prefer self-serve meals, so I always try to set out whatever my guests might want so they can get it themselves without having to ask for it.  I thought this shelf would be perfect to use for a self-service breakfast bar.

Here it is loaded it up with some blue and white English cups and saucers

I added some tea selections, along with my pink silverware and some napkins.  Oh yes, please don’t adjust the color on your computer, those spoons and forks really are pink!  I do love to use my nice silver, but I thought a casual ranch breakfast would be fun today with my pink flatware.

Then I added a few jams for the croissants and English muffins.
Another must for self-service out here are trays.  The trays work great when I am serving buffet-style, and guests are carrying their plates, utensils, napkins and glasses to a table.  I found these wood trays at TJ Maxx.
I love to have flowers and here are some in a vase from Ikea.

After my visit with Leslie at her house (click here) I decided to use her idea, and serve home-made natural flavored water.  I added some watermelon slices to fresh well water for a refreshing drink.

My teenage daughter made some square chocolate chip cookies that I served.  I don’t think they were supposed to be square but that is what happens when you bake them too close together.  (I was gone at the time taking blog photos, and left Mr. CH to supervise.  Hmm…)   I do have to admit that they were actually very delicious.
After breakfast, I cleared the dishes and wondered how the shelf would look with just some flowers and pots.

Remember my bluebells (click here)?  I cut so many, that I used them every where.

What a lovely day; I think it is time for a nap.

Anita this is just so wonderful for the breakfast buffet!

When the weather breaks it will be just as nice for serving pieces at lunch or dinner alfresco.

What a darling idea! We enjoy breakfast on the deck in the Spring & Fall here On Crooked Creek! Both looks are adorable. Those chocolate chip cookies…perhaps it’s “hip” to be square!!! Thank you for allowing us to see not one, but two different looks @ CH!

looks like the perfect way to start the day 🙂 TJ Maxx? no way! I never go there because I tell myself it’s too much of a mess to find anything and then – look at those adorable trays! I’m completely in love with the pine shelves and the little wire shelf is perfect for a teacup caddy on the porch! Fabulous 🙂 diane

The shelves are so pretty on your porch and will be great for so many things! And you’ve given me a great idea…the trays! I need to get a few trays so that hubby and I can make our own trays up to take out to the balcony! It would sure cut down on the trips! ♥

Oh, your back porch dining area is so enticing! Makes me want to come on over. You did a great job – it’s so appealing. Isn’t it funny how many of us rush thru breakfast and don’t take the time to go outside, take a deep breath and listen to the birdies chirping? So, tomorrow I am having breakfast on my back porch – you have inspired me. Thank you!

Your shelf looks beautiful both ways. I love how it looks arranged for breakfast, but the simplicity of the florals and white is also appealing. Thanks for sharing both looks.

Came over to see this again and am saving this. We plan to build a smal deck off the kitchen in the Spring just for grilling and eating and this is a PERFECT idea for that space! I know I will eat breakfast out there often. I so love this. XO, Pinky
