Antique Linens

By Anita 33 Comments

I just discovered the most amazing thing, that you can buy beautiful antique French bed linens on eBay for  less than $100.

Well I did find this fabulous bedding that I have folded over my duvet at the foot of my bed on eBay for about $75.  I loved the bedding so much, I decided to try to find some more, but all of the other similar bedding was about $200, which tells me I got a great deal.

This is all linen, with wonderful embroidery work.

And all of this amazing beauty was less than what I would have paid for a new plain, boring duvet cover.

My plan was to take this bed spread and sew it into a duvet cover.

But it is so pretty, and I decided that I did not want to alter it.

Instead, I simply wrapped the bedspread around the duvet.

I just love all of the details, the texture of the antique linen fabric, and all of that work on this beautiful linen piece.

I also bought a new pillow from Antique Farmhouse that adds a little interest to the bedding without overloading it with too many pillows.  (I promised Mr. CH that I would cut back on the number of pillows on our bed.  The old bedding had 9 pillows on it, which requires that you find a place to store the extra pillows when you are sleeping.)

Here’s a view of the room from another direction.

That was a great deal! The linens are beautiful! Love the delicate handiwork adorning it!

I got tickled when I read the part about promising your husband to cut down on the pillows. Mine proclaims, that if something ever happens to me, every pillow in this house is going out of the window shortly after! ha! He really loves me, lol, but he is also really annoyed and doesn’t “get” the pillow thing! 🙂

I am also a pillow person. They all land on the old rocker in our bedroom at night.

It is beautiful! I’m kinda there on all the pillows too. It seems I like to simplify things these days. We have had our share of lots of pillows so I do understand.

How beautiful and what a great price. I don’t blame you for not altering it. The embroidery and edging are so pretty…I wouldn’t have altered it either. Love the way you displayed it.

Love that vintage cover you so cleverly placed around the duvet! Also love the pillow (isn’t antique farmhouse great?) My hubby has a problem with all the pillows, too. Um, right now there are (only) 9! What can I say? I love me my pillows!

You got a gem! This beautiful piece is heirloom quality. I am so happy you chose not to alter it! I have monogrammed french linens on my guest room bed… and the monogram is not mine! They too, were old and just so luscious that I had to buy them!
You have a very good eye for all things of beauty!

Anita, please tell me what you used as the wording in search on eBay to find the beautiful bedding you have. I know that it’s a being at the right place at the right time on there, but I haven’t come to see anything remotely related to what you have. All my searches are coming up with items that you can find in the stores here at one time or another. Thank you….and again “what a gorgeous bedroom!”
