Antique Doors for the New House

By Anita 21 Comments

We’ve been searching for some gorgeous antique doors for the study in the new house.  The plan is to hang them like barn doors.

I found a matching pair of these doors at the local antique auction. They had a set of 5, but I only needed two. Thank goodness, because I couldn’t fit another one in my car any way.

I’m sure the builder gets so happy to see me, because I’m always showing up at his office with something heavy for his crew to carry up the stairs to his storage space.  I have quite a pile of things there… mirrors, light fixtures, a very heavy newel post, corbels, and now these doors.

As you can see they need some good cleaning, sanding, paint, and one pane of glass, but otherwise they seem to be in good shape. I’ll let you know what they look like when we get them hung in the study.

Oh, these doors are SO amazing. Im envious… my husband (he’s an Engineer!) has a real hard time seeing outside of the box. It pretty much has to be black and white. So when I brought up the subject of “old doors” it got vetoed immediately!!!! 🙂 I will say that he gave in on a lot of other things I wanted though, so I can’t complain. But these doors are just amazing. What color are you thinking of painting them? ~ Dori ~

Hi Anita, I love the doors that you have picked for your house. Can you tell me if you plan to strip them and either restain or paint them? I am interested in your process if you strip them because I have a 100 yr.old window that I have to strip to the natural wood and I am wondering how I should go about this. Do you have any advise for me?????? I would really love your input, you do very nice work and I value your opinion. Thank you so much.
Best wish to you and yours
    Debbie
