Miss Mustard Seed’s Rug

By Anita 39 Comments

I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m a morning person; but I would say I’m happy to get up every morning.

I’m truly excited about the day, and excited to come here and meet with you. I know, I know, I’ve said it before, but it’s totally true.  I love coming here to see what you have to say.

Let’s get you some tea, and you can sit in one of my favorite spots here in my room.  I’ll even let you sit in the “good” chair.  So what’s going on with you?  I sometimes feel like I’m doing all of the talking, but I know you’ve got lots going on in your life.

Not that long ago, I felt I was… DIFFERENT.  I’m not sure how to explain it, but I love beautiful things and DIY projects, and dishes, and entertaining.  I was baffled when I had parties and the guests didn’t even notice that I was using REAL LINEN NAPKINS AND SILVERWARE instead of a plastic fork and a paper napkins.
I wanted to say, “Don’t you just love these hand-painted French dishes?” but I knew they would just smile at me, and say “yes dear,” all the while patting hand like I was a little child.  I didn’t want them to think I was bragging.  After all, I bought them at a garage sale.  (Totally true, but you are getting me side-tracked here.)

Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE ALL of my friends even though most of them don’t share my passion for design. It’s just that it’s nice to have friends (like you) who DO share my passion.

I love it that you will notice and enjoy my new rug as much as I do.  It just like the one on Miss Mustard Seed’s blog. (I got mine at Decor Steals.  This isn’t a sponsored post, I just love my rug.)

See?  I knew you would want to see how pretty it is in my bedroom. I knew you would enjoy the roses too.

You listen when I go on about my trips to Antique Week at Round Top, and about how Caroline fell in love with a zebra, here,  how Peggy brought me the most delicious petite fours here, why I was so sad at graduation time, here. You listen when I go on and on, about how I love to sit on my back porch.  You too were shocked along with me when I told about the family secret I unearthed from reading old family letters, here. My other friends only listen to those stories when I feed them my homemade brownies served on hand-painted plates that they don’t notice.

You cheered on my daughter when she got her driver’s license.  Yes she did make a dangerous turn during the driving test, but since the officer didn’t see the car either and yelled some very bad words when she thought she was going to die she decided to pass my girl!

I can totally relate to what you’re saying. Many of my friends like my house, and ask a question here or there, but when it comes down to it, design isn’t their thing. I sometimes yearn for a ‘real life’ friend who can go on junking trips with me, get excited over a perfectly ruffled slipcover, or help me accessorize my newly made over room; however, then I remember that we bloggers are SO lucky to have eachother from all different parts of the world. Can you imagine what your home would be without blogging? I’ve gotten so much inspiration from blogging, that my home, I’m sure, is much more beautiful for it!
ps LOVE your bedroom-the new rug, the french chair, the bed spread..so pretty!

Your bedroom is SO beautiful and of course I noticed your new rug!!! How exciting! I’ve been so tempted to order that rug for my tiny living room.
I know just how you feel about the whole friends thing. I am so thankful for my bloggy friends that “get” me and want to see my little projects and I love seeing their projects too.
The other day I showed my family how I took a cardboard letter from the craft store and painted it to look like metal. I was so excited and they just gave me blank looks. lol! I thought to myself “THIS is why I blog!”.

I always love coming to visit you, my friend! I only wish it could be in person!!! I would not only comment about the pretty china cup and saucer and fork and plate and real washed and pressed linen napkins…. I would gush… and be so sincere! For you and I are kindred spirits and we both not only enjoy… but delight in such things!!!
Your bedroom is divine! As is the new “Miss Mustard Seed” floor covering. It is pure and elegant french trimmings!!!!
Have a blessed day… you have blessed mine!

Hi Anita! I love popping over for a visit as you are always ‘real’. I love your style of decorating and rejoice with you when you find those special things no matter where you get them. Now, I love your rug and your bedroom is so beautiful. Yay, for us bloggers who understand the thrill and love of pretty things.

I know this post is about the rug … but I LOVE your bedding! Of course, I love the rug too since I have a few of my own. I got mine at a local boutique. And that chair in your room … that’s the one I envy. 🙂 I can totally relate to what you’re saying about the china and silverware. A friend of mine saw photos of my Thanksgiving table setting and said her family always uses paper plates and plastic ware. Really? I just can’t imagine eating such a lovely meal that way – not to mention it just adds to the landfill. Anywho … your bedroom is truly beautiful. Thanks for sharing it!

This is one of the great joys of blogging, meeting people who share the same passions.
I was thinking about you yesterday as it happens, because last year when you did your ‘Christmas Table’ post, I spotted some of the Spode Christmas tree plates, and decided I would start collecting. Every now and again I add some more pieces, and yesterday some new items arrived, which instantly reminded me of you!
I very much enjoyed my visit to your room today. You are so right,I would have spotted, and admired, your new rug straight away.

I have been one of your silent readers for a while now but I totally get you and love reading your blog. I live nearby north of Houston so I truly envy the Ranch! I have one girlfriend who “gets” me which is nice but the blog world is incredible. I found one yesterday that I started reading backwards are far as I could keep my eyes on straight. Had to stop finally….dinner needed to be made. Feel that way about your blog, love the rug, the bedroom & especially the slipcovers. Fabulous job you did!!

Anita, I had to smile as I read through this post. It pretty much sums up my feelings too. Being connected in the world of blog to others who share a passion for interiors has giving my life much joy. I admit that I do have friends who notice, but they are not likely to take in all the details. You inspire me in many ways. I so enjoy my visits to Cedar HIll Ranch. 😉

I hear you on all counts Anita.

I bring in old French silver thinking of the life it’s lived before and marveling at the details….my husband sees dirty old knives.

Blogging is a wonderful experience that is made better by hearing comments from those that read and understand or appreciate what they see.

Congratulations on the rug. It looks great!

I am afraid that I am one of the ones who peeks in the back door, waves and moves on. Bad habit. I know exactly what you mean about someone not noticing. I grew up in a family where paper plates were the greatest thing since sliced bread. I can’t enjoy a beautiful meal (or even a sandwich) on paper or styrofoam plates. There is something so elegant about the sound of silver on china. I love to bring out the Depresion Glass to enhance a meal. Lovely things are meant to be enjoyed, not saved. Thanks for understanding. Regena in TN.

    HI Anita,

I don’t blog but it’s why I LOVE reading others blogs. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who would rather buy an old dress form (which EVERYONE asks me what it is and why I have it) than new high heels. The bedroom is gorgeous. Where did you get that basket? I LOVE it.
