So I was not allowed to go alone. We met at the salvage yard. (I felt like my dad was with me, except that he’s younger and has all of his hair.) Maybe it was unnecessary, but this is the Southern way. Yes my hubby is pretty Southern too, but he knows I go to some tough places to junk shop, so he’s not worried.
See the wood below? I considered it for the wood floors, but didn’t end up using it.
When I found out it was pine, I steered away from it, since we have a collie. Some day I’ll show you the collie-sized scratches on the pine floor at the ranch.
Want to see what the antique bead board looks like on my porch ceiling? Here it is.
My friend Meg said it looked so “Round Top”!
Did you miss any of my construction updates? You can catch up here.

That porch ceiling is fantastic. Sounds like you’re working with a really great builder.
Revi says
LOVE it! Though, I think I expected the wood to run the other direction. Totally unexpected! Love the mix of hues. I remember going to the coolest salvage place in Houston. Olshan…is it still there?
Dayle @ A Collection of This and That says
It’s so perfectly you. Love it.
Carol says
That’s funny that you had to have an escort to the salvage yard. Some men don’t know what a steel magnolia is. I drive an 03 Buick Century. Miss Buick and I have hauled all kinds of stuff-dirt, trees, and old door, etc. When the guys “help” me load stuff up they look at me funny. Who needs a truck when you have an old Buick!
Lori says
Wow, just wow!
Sharon @ mrshinesclass says
You’re right…it is totally the southern way to not let a lady go somewhere along.
BTW, you have street cred with me..for what it’s worth. 🙂
So, where is this wonderful salvage yard?

Oh my word Anita – just catching up on your house posts. So gorgeous. I absolutely love that old beadboard ceiling. It’s incredible. ~ Dori ~
Sharon says
While the wood looks great, especially on an old house, just be careful because the paint contains lead. It’s a hazard if it’s chipping. I wouldn’t put in on the interior of the house and I’d encapsulate the paint that is peeling.
Yvonne @ StoneGable says
Oh, sigh! This is just amazing, Anita! What a wonderful idea my friend! You inspire me!
Anne says
That is so cool! Hmmmm I would LOVE this on my kitchen island…….now where to find a salvage yard! Thanks for the inspiration my friend!

You will someday get your street ” cred ” , it happens in unexpected and miraculous ways. I love the wood ceiling and I can picture it on a wall, as a back splash, or simply cut in different lengths and framed with some of the other great woods you looked at!
