Yes I know you’ve heard of the Tour De France, but have you heard of the Tour De Paint? Well, if you haven’t, don’t worry, it’s just something I just made up.
I need to pick out a paint color for our new house, so I decided to take a tour of the new neighborhood, and take pictures of the houses that had paint colors I liked. We are building a craftsman style house, so the style will be similar to these homes. Help me pick out the paint color. I’ve numbered each house to make it easier.
Ready? Buckle up, here we go.

Moss greens, grays and taupes are what I see in your future.
Kim @ Savvy Southern Style says
Looks like 4 and 9 are the same and I am drawn to those.
On Crooked Creek says
Anita,
Alrighty, dear friend, you ask…I choose #11!!!
“Mr. Ed” and I toured newer housing areas when we were beginning the decision process of a new paint color for our 1970’s Ranch Style Home. Photos were taken, then off to the paint store for near to hue paint chips, followed by samples.
The one other thing that helped me decide between close matches …the name of the color. Comical, but I liked the name of our choice…Mark Twain House Bark!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Lisa @ Fern Creek Cottage says
My favorites are 3, 7, & 9. I like the med-dark shades of gray best. Love the drawing of your home. I think symmetry is so important in home design and your home has that. It is going to be beautiful!
Sharibee says
Love #1 and #3!!!
marty (A Stroll Thru Life) says
#10, looks so fresh. Hugs, Marty
Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions says
I liked 2, 3 and 6, Anita. It can be tough picking out an exterior color for your house. I tend to go the lighter route myself. Before we moved we had to redo vinyl siding on our house and went with a light tan. Here at the condo {where all the units are the same}, it is a light grey with stonework at the bottoms.
Julie @ followyourheartwoodworking says
Looks like a choice between green and grey. I choose green, like #3. You are so fortunate to be building this new house, I’m sure it will be fabulous!
Penny @ The Comforts of Home/From Harvest To Table says
One and three are my favorites. Looking forward to seeing what you chose.
Michelle says
3 and 4. Can’t wait to see it finished!
Debra @ Common Ground says
first of all it looks like a wonderful neighborhood, and they all have the same great neutral idea going on. I’m a taupe with black shutters kind of gal. that would be my pick.
Betsy@ coastal-colors says
Anita, these are all lovely. I do like 4 and 9. What a difficult decision when they all look great!
Donna Hollingsworth says
They are all gorgeous! I love the combinations of a gray house with black shutters and white trim. To me, that is so classic!
JP says
1, 4 and 9 are all darker grey and they would me my choices, most definitely…best of luck with your decision!
Pondside says
I vote for #4. The others, with the exception of #5 look a little insipid. I like the darker grey and darker-yet shutters. A new house – what fun!
Michele Smith says
I like 1 and 3 also. I’ve been MIA for awhile..soo congrats on building a new home, looking forward to seeing it complete
Market Nine home says
Congrats on the new home! I vote for #4 or #7. Not too blue, not too pink… Just a nice stone gray… I like the touch of black for contrast in #4. Love your elevation! Have fun picking the colors! ~Kristie
Susan says
Love these types of homes. I like 6 & 9. They both seems to have a green tint. Good luck!!
The Comfort of a Safe Place says
#6 is my choice – the color combination is so appealing.
Scribbler says
No. 5 or No 10. I envy you this opportunity to start with a clean slate! I think we will be stuck with ours forever. But I will enjoy watching yours take shape. You always inspire me.
A Jones says
I like #3 just because of the white trim…it is not cream it is white. I think that is a must. They rest of the house can be whatever color, but the white trim is what makes it pop.
Carla63 says
I love #1 for my first choice and #3 as my second.
Robin says
My vote is #3 and #6. Can’t decide which I like better of the two! Sorry.
Violets Are Blue says
Darker is richer darling, along the lines of 1, 6, 9 – it gives more depth and visual interest and oh the possibilities for accessorizing! Patty/BC
Ann says
I like #3. We had a business in our town that wanted customers to vote on the outside paint color for their building (which sat at a stop light). They painted 3-4 colors on the side of the building and posted their URL.
It is neat that you are doing the same thing. Can’t wait to see what you pick.
Tina says
My favorite is #1, it’s warm and inviting.
Revi says
I prefer 1 & 3 – I like the body of the house color on #3, the light trim on both, and the darker windows on #1. Does that make sense? Exciting!
-Revi
{Carrie} says
I like the body color of #11 but the trim needs to be a little more contrasting like the color of trim on #1 and then maybe the black accent or red accent around the actualy window frame and doors.
ruthie says
I think #3. But also like clean lines of #5.
Ellie VanCaster says
Number one is my favorite-better backdrop I think for landscaping.
Neat house design-must be exciting that it’s coming along.
anangloinquebec says
I love 4 and 10. They both make a statement, not wishy-washy, very committed and I like that. I never like it when a house looks as thought the owner could not make a committment to a colour so sort of went half-way.
Inspired by you says
I like 1 and 10.
kateri says
I like number five. I think a taupe with gray in it would look nice. And with white trim your new house looks beautiful. When we built a house it was sooooo exciting to pick everything out, from the ground up. Have fun!
keydesign says
I think either 3 or 4 look great!
ℳartina @ Northern Nesting says
I like numbers 1, 2 love the stained garage doors,3, & 10. It can be so hard picking colors for the outside but I know what ever you choose it’s going to look wonderful!
Designs By Pinky says
Number 10 is my favorite and then # 2. Beautiful homes and I know yours will be too!!! When does construction start???? I hope you have a good experience like we did. XO, Pinky
Lisa Rose says
Why not do it the right way. If you are truly styling after a craftsman home, do the research on the originals and go from there. Problem solved!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Pamela says
I vote number 3!:)
ShadowsFire says
I like # 6 the best. But I am not hot about white trim. My hubby was a painter and one of the places he did was the olive grey green like that with a darker green trim. It was lovely. I had picked those to be our colors if we ever got to paint our house. Sadly he passed away 2 years ago. But if I ever do get a chance to paint a house I will probably use those colors.
Geri Patton says
6 or 9…..stay away from the greys…everyone has gray…..greens are the way to go (in my opinion) with a darker barn red or burnt orange door…love the two toned trim on 6…..Good Luck & have fun with it!!
Rebecca says
#1,4,7,9 would be my picks.
lsvasa says
1 and 6 are my favorites. They are very close to the colors I have picked out for repainting my house later this year!
onnery says
Number 9 or number 1 (in that order)
Shabby Sweet Tea says
#1 has my vote
countrymeadowsdesigns says
numbers 3 and 6 are my favs; I love sages with cream, not white. Here in town is the sweetest bungalow with two shades of light sages and cream trim. Sage is warmer than a true grey can be and in summer has a coolness about it under the shade trees. Love it
Shirley@Housepitality Designs says
I so love the craftsman style…and I love the #10 color..maybe it is because I love the house too!…and #4 is also a “contender”…from lighter to darker…
Love these homes!
Southern Muse says
I so love this style of home. I have one much like it on 60 acres. I went with a yellow tan color close to the following colors:
http://homerenovations.about.com/od/Exterior/ss/Craftsman-House-Colors-and-Ideas_3.htm
I say be different and can you imagine the creamy colors with beautiful gardens having greens and flowers of every color…
Jenny Lynn says
Well, I like # 1,4 and 7…I look forward to seeing what you pick.
Di says
Definitely #1 !! Also really like the house pic from back in Oct when you first announced you bought a house. Nice contrasts. Like the actual window frame painted dark then the white trim. Gives it depth and interest, not so flat. In my opinion. 🙂 Good luck with your color decisions. How exciting!!!
Little Cottage on the Pond says
#5 is my fav!
pipigirl says
10 would be perfect i think….like 5 also….have fun. good way to do this!!!!
Art and Sand says
I am liking the grayish colors. A new house was just built around the corner and they used a dark gray with white trim. It is gorgeous.
Good luck choosing.
Christine says
My *favorite* houses in this style are like the color in #1. That or gray with white trim – which would be the color of my house! 😉
#1! #1! #1!
Jann Olson says
I like #1, #6, or #9. Ha, ha. I moved from a grey house though and I did like it. Kind of grooving on the greenish colors. If we had built I was going to build a craftsman. Deicided to buy instead. Can’t wait to see yours as it progresses. I must tell you, there are two craftsman style remodels in our area that have used mustard and red. Sounds bizarre, but both are darling. I could go take pics and e-mail if you’d like.
hugs,
Jann
Jana@Transformations From the Heart says
What fun to pick out paint colors for your new home. My picks are 3 and 10, like both for the style of home. Look forward to seeing what you decide on.
anita1963 says
I like number 5 is light and gives more contrast to the black window hatch, but it’s certainly more work with a light color that you might get to paint more frequently
MikkiGirl says
#6 has my vote!
