SwEeeeT CaRe-O-Line’s Beautiful Home

By Anita 1 Comment

Sweet Caroline …Good times never seemed so good.
I’ve been inclined…to believe they never would.
But now I…

haven’t thought of that song in years.  Thank you Neil Diamond.  Sweet Caroline isn’t just a Neil Diamond song, it’s my friend’s name.  Caroline, who has been to Round Top with me several times, has a beautiful home.  I know because I was just there.  She is from South Carolina, so she has a lovely, musical accent.  As you will see her style is very traditional with a modern twist.  I just couldn’t help myself, I had to share some pictures with you.

See the lamp between the two chairs?  She got that large bottle at Round Top.  They converted it to a lamp, buy putting a stopper in the top.  You can see that the cord is attached to the stopper but not the jar.  They didn’t even drill through the glass, so I am thinking this would be an easy home project if you are so inclined.  I think the effect is lovely.

Below you can see her wall shelf which resides in the breakfast room.  I love that shelf.  She once said she was going to get rid of it, and I should have kept quiet when she mentioned it instead of opening my BIG mouth.  I said that I LOVED it, and that I would BUY it if she did indeed end up selling it, which I hoped she would.  Then, apparently I was TOO enthusiastic, because she decided that maybe she DID still like it after all.  (MUST keep mouth closed in future.)  Later when I asked casually after the shelf, she said that she planned to paint it.  HORROR of horrors, I felt that would ruin it, and then when she decided she no long wanted it, I wouldn’t want it either.  As I walked into her breakfast room, I said cautiously, “Soooo, you decided not to paint it?”  Yes, she informed me, she had decided just that, but was still considering painting the back part of the shelf.  This time, I casually said to no one in particular, “Oh… how interesting.”  (I am learning to appear disinterested.)  There was hope for me and the shelf, yet.  (Good, now if I can just convince her that it just isn’t working in her house…)

She has displayed several pieces of ironstone in the pine shelf that she purchased at Round Top (some at Marburger Farms and other pieces at Clutter, next to Cole’s).  The mugs and the orange juicer (pitcher to the far right) are from Anthropologie.

She also showed me some of her recent finds.  They are some really neat French plates.  Here is what the back of the plate looks like.

And here is the front.  I think the back label looks just as wonderful as the front of the plate.

Caroline also has the most amazing kitchen, but we’ve got to save something for later.   Oh and CAROLINE, are you SURE that pine shelf goes with your DARK OAK table?  Don’t answer yet, JUST THINK about it.

Caroline sounds like a true Southern Belle! Her family room is amazing – can’t wait to see more pics of her home. Mrs. CH, you didn’t post a pic of the entire room with the pine shelf but I’m thinking that shelf would look better at your home. (Sorry Caroline, just so you know, every time Mrs. CH gets something new, something “old” comes my way – so, really truly, you should make Mrs. CH happy! She pays it forward – or maybe this would be backwards!)
