Reader Survey Tell Me What You Want!

By Anita 37 Comments

Tell me what you want, what you really, really want. I know the Spice Girls sang it, and they’re not the only ones that want to know. I want to know what you want here at Cedar Hill Farmhouse. And if you don’t tell me, I will have to guess. And my mind-reading skills are really, really awful.

So, let’s make a deal.

I promise to work very hard to provide you with the best content and to provide you the kind of content you want. In return I need you to tell me what that is. This doesn’t work if the communication is just one-way.

I’ve included a short survey in this post. Please, please, please take the time to fill it out. I will use this information to determine how I can best serve you in 2017.

I will report the results at the end of January.

Anita, your home and your mountain home are both lovely. They show warmth and a welcoming feeling. I live in the Great Smoky Mountains but I am more of a primitive person. Any ideas for 2017 for primitive decorating? I am 70 years old, still work full time and just love going out hunting for that old rusty worn jewel for my home.
Thank You and Happy New Year!!!

Anita I tried to take the survey you wanted for 2017, but could not get it to work. So here goes: Yes, I love your blog and I am on your email list and receive emails daily that I love. I do reply (even though sometimes I know you wish I wouldn’t), but love the way you share things with people and show them how to do them. I especially love your ideas on decorating for low cost, painting techniques, would love to see more for General Decorating, Low cost decorating, table settings, recipes, gardening, new paint techniques. I can’t think of anything else, but am happy that you share these things with us and enjoy every topic. Sorry that the survey didn’t go through. Oh I also love the way you show sometimes how to decorate a coffee table or bookcase. I do decorating and staging and that is sometimes the hardest thing to do without over doing it.

I finished the survey although it is difficult to do. Every time you try to answer it goes to the bottom and you have to scroll back up. I do enjoy your blog daily. My home is more traditional with lots of stained wood, but I always find ways to incorporate your ideas.

I could not get your survey to work, but I did want to comment. I started reading many different decorating blogs several years ago. At first I couldn’t get enough and then I began noticing the blogs are pretty much the same. White furniture, white/gray walls, painted white kitchen cabinets. Also began noticing that everything on the most read blogs began shifting away from DIY to where you could go to buy everything just like what’s on the blog, to now all the enviable merchandise is being given to the blogger to blog about. And the biggest turnoff now is everyone is getting a second home or moving on to a bigger better place to decorate. What I’m trying to say, and probably I’m saying it poorly, is that I thought the idea was to help us be happy where we are and strive to improve without breaking the bank.

Ahhh Mary, thank you for the feedback. A lot of my readers ask me where I buy things. I get a ton of emails all the time, so I began to do posts that have sources. I agree that many of the blogger homes do look alike. I’m not sure what to say about that. Yes the point is to love your home. Some people have small budgets and some have big budgets. I try to show options for every range of budgets. It’s true that companies give bloggers stuff. This is also a business, so it has to be profitable. Those sponsors help me to pay my assistant, my email service, my hosting service and so forth and so on. I don’t think most readers realize that providing a blog is very expensive. Think of a magazine. The publisher wants to provide the very best content, but also stay in the black. I get asked to do a lot of sponsored posts that I turn down, because I don’t feel it would be helpful to my readers or because I can’t honestly recommend the product. I do appreciate your comment so much and will try to include more on low cost updates or no cost updates.

Thank you for your response, and let me say that I’m not picking on any one blog but just get tired of seeing the same thing over and over. I guess I would prefer more DIY making something out of nothing more than just a list of where to go and purchase the same thing. I certainly understand the need to make money, don’t we all, but if a person is money challenged then what’s the point of reading the blog. I subscribe to many blogs and I am now in the habit of trashing them before reading, I guess this is a personal problem and my solution. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to respond.?

Yes, very difficult to take the survey, but I persevered. Bottom line, I love what you’re doing and I’m ready for a new book. I bought your book before I even knew you had a blog. It was an Amazon suggestion based on previous purchases. Lucky day for me!

Thank you Ginger! You are a JEWEL!! I think I might have fixed the issue with the survey. I had a progress bar at the top, and I removed it. I think it kept scrolling people back to the top. Wow, that’s lovely. I had no idea you found me from Amazon. I’m so glad you did.

I took the survey but it kept jumping down to the bottom after each question. If it were me I wouldn’t use this service again! I do love your information. I find myself looking forward to Cedar Hill Farms being in my in-box. I also search for you on Pinterest. I made a few suggestions but if you stay on the same path with a few tweaks I am sure we will all love it!?

I took the survey didn’t work smoothly but got through it. Basically I enjoy your blog. Yes I agree so much white and grey. I don’t know why white is used so much in winter, it makes me feel cold. Love your decor style. Would love to win your book.

Hello, Greetings from the Northeast where we have lots of snow as of yesterday. I enjoy the connection I feel with you as a read your daily post. I have replicated many of your ideas and tried your recipes. LOL the fudge recipe was a bomb but it was my fault. I ended up making cookies with my fudge that didn’t set.

I had no trouble filling out the survey!!!!!

I was thinking a podcast might be fun and informative. I know there are live podcast done on FB that would allow you to interact with listeners. Just a thought.

I am enjoying my French Accents book that I won. People do actually win. THANKS!

    Happy New Year.

I got through the survey and I must have been lucky because didn’t have problems. After reading other’s comments I find I agree with the person who said that a lot of the blogger homes look a like, white, grays, etc. I also found that to be true and I eventually unsubscribled to most, just kept the ones I loved the most, that being yours and one or two others because yours is more rounded. Also because I think you truly care about those who follow your blog. Looking forward to seeing how you will transform your mountain home. We have our home on the market here in Texas and will be moving to the mountains of Northern Arizona. Will need decorating tips for a mountain home. Thank you! Jill

Love your blog! Check it everyday for a new article. I love in a log house with lots of wood everywhere. Would love to see articles on how to bring in a more french look. Painting all the wood is out of the question so has to be done through decorating. Look forward to seeing all the new articles for next year!

It is like you read my mind, and I too have been adding lavender to my blues and greens. I don’t really care what they say the color of the year “has” to be. If it doesn’t relate to my blue and white then I just pass it on by. But I will say when I read that you were adding the lavender, I thought Yes, she gets me and I will now be a faithful follower!!!!!! So glad I found you!! All the best in the new year Anita!!
