Rachel Ashwell’s Shabby Chic B&B, part 1

By Anita 28 Comments

Rachel Ashwell recently purchased a B&B near Round Top, Texas.  Just in case you don’t know who Rachel is, she is the designer who created the Shabby Chic style, writing several books about this wonderful look that we in bloggy land love.

Her B&B, called The Prairie, is a delightful place, and I had the pleasure of a guided tour on a recent trip to Round Top.  Lisa and Danny run things here at The Prairie while Rachel is away.  Lisa gave me a personal tour of the grounds and we had such a wonderful time talking and visiting. She was such a treasure to talk to.  (Okay Rachel, don’t read this part.)  Lisa adores working there and says she can’t believe she gets paid to work in such a beautiful place.

I’ll start with some photos of “the big house” first.  Here are some photos of the outside of the house.  It is a wonderful example of a turn-of-the-century Texas house with a metal roof.  I looks like it has the original wood siding and stone skirting.

Inside I got some shots of the guests rooms.  The first photo at the top of this post is of the guest room at the top of the stairs to the left.  Below are some more photos from that room.

This is the adorable door to the guest room.

Next door there was a cute built-in corner cabinet.

Out that door to the left is a balcony, where I saw this fun, chippy table.

Across the hall, sits another lovely bedroom.

I thought this bedside table had lots of charm.

And who could resist this lovely vanity?

Come back for Part 2.  We’ve got several guest cottages to tour along with the the rest of the big house.

Here are the links to the rest of the tour.

It’s me again here to answer your question about our marble backsplash. It has a bull-nose edge. I had a photo and showed it to my marble man. He is a perfectionist and was wonderful to work with. I hope you had a chance to look at the other room reveals we have shown so far. You can get an overall feel for our look.
