This is the room belonging to my daughter who has Down Syndrome. She’s 20, wow, I can’t believe I said that out loud.
She loves to steal all of my hair brushes and combs, then she lines them up on the floor. She also likes to line up tooth brushes on the floor, which is why I hide mine now. She and her babysitter sit in those chairs and watch Spanish Novellas in the afternoon, and eat heavenly Mexican food that the babysitter cooks. I know it’s fantastic because sometimes I am offered a snack .
This room is quite cozy I think. There’s a very large pear tree right outside the window, which is great because sometimes we take our clothes off for no reason. (Well she does, I don’t.)
See? I told you the bed was rusty.
This room was a breeze, I’m bracing myself for the other daughter’s room. If you don’t hear from me for a week or more, please notify the authorities.

The room is lovely. I grew up with a Down Syndrome boy (my mother’s best friend’s son). He was quite funny and KNEW he was funny. However, he was a mess! lol Her room is just gorgeous. I love the sweet simplicity of it. xo Diana
Beautiful room and story. I have daughters and I found that if you can get them to decorate they are more likely to keep it nice. My messy daughter made a complete turn around once her room was how she wanted it and she was getting a lot of attention for it. The neat daughter became a decorating addict and wanted to change her room every two years!

What a beautiful room! The colors are so pretty and serene. My daughter’s room when she was growing up was much like your other daughter’s. You needed a shovel for all the clothes and “stuff.” Having to say your daughter is 20 is not so bad. Wait until you have to say she’s 39. Now THAT hurts!
This is a beautiful room. I like the way it is very neutral, but there are added splashes of colour from the rug and the gorgeous paintings.
Anita, I love the armoire it is fabulous sitting with the iron bed. I like the dark floors too, it works.

As the mother of a 25 year old Autistic daughter I can so completely relate! We, she and I, are about to embark on a journey whose end is supposed to be a “new” room. We shall see how new we get. Beautiful room! Cracking up (and crying at the same time) – as I am mourning the recent loss of my favorite toothbrush. My precious son used it in his own lineup and it was a sad parting. What is it with the lineups? I do like the idea of a lock and key. Forgetting hiding the family treasures – nope, round here we hide toothbrushes and headphones.
Love the entire room but those lamps shades really caught my eye. I think those would look great in my master bedroom. It is a little bit western (in honor of all the cowboys in my heritage) and a little bit French. Can so see those on my side tables next to my grandfather’s old dusty cowboy hat hanging from the bed post. Where did you find them?

I love her room! Can you tell me how much space is between her bed and the window? ( Just wondering if I have the room to put my seating area in front of my window, too. )

I did seal it with a clear coat of spray paint.
Your daughter is a lucky girl to have a mom with a huge heart and you are lucky to have her too. I am certain she stretches your patience from time to time and I am sure her sister does to. I also have two daughters as different as night and day, so I too can relate. When the oldest moved away from home, that cute guy I married said, “Did you know her room had carpet?” And the younger one was so fussy that she knew if I went in her room to put in clean laundry while she was at school and would holler, “Who went into my room today, and why?” I absolutely love your sense of humor and your home is absolutely beautiful as are you. I can only imagine how happy and grateful your daughter’s are to have a supermom like you. You have a beautiful daughter’s, too, of course.
