New House Update – Go Ahead Write on the Walls

By Anita 23 Comments

I remember long ago, the horror walking in my children’s bathroom only to find the wallpaper ripped off the wall and pen marks all over another wall. My kids got a talkin’ to that day. Later I realized that a ‘certain friend’ had been visiting and the mom of that friend said her daughter often ripped wallpaper off the wall.  Well mystery solved.
My kids were in the clear, but meanwhile I had to hire someone to come repair the damage to my bathroom.

Needless to say, my kids aren’t allowed to write on the walls, EXCEPT for now. And technically they aren’t writing on the walls, but on the studs.

We wanted to give our house a firm spiritual foundation, so we decided one of the best things to do was to write bible verses on the studs.  I gave my daughter a sharpie and told her to have fun.

We added verses about hospitality in the dining room, verses about family and cooking in the kitchen and keeping room, and also verses about protection over the doors.

If the workers noticed the “vandalism”, they didn’t say anything.

Did you miss any of my construction updates? You can catch up here.
Here’s a list of the parties that I visit on a regular basis.  I might have shared this link at any number of these.

This is one of the best home tips I have ever heard. With three new houses under my belt, now I can’t wait to have to tear off a piece of sheetrock somewhere here – I know just what I’ll do before it gets put back up.

Great idea! When our church added a huge, new sanctuary, they let the members write on the floor before they covered it with carpet. I missed that and your post just reminded me of how wonderful that would be to do!

I love this idea, Anita! One of our neighbors put a Bible at each corner of the foundation when they were building their home. Your home is coming along and looks great! I love all your wonderful ideas!

I’m sending this link to a friend who’s building a “barndominium” in a nearby canyon. She’ll love it as much as I do.

How wonderful! You and your family will always know the verses are there inside the walls. What a great memory and tradition.

I saw a post by a very talented artists blogger recently in which she showed photos of the scriptural verse she painted around the upper perimeter of a family’s kitchen/dining area. Loved it, too.

This is one of the sweetest ideas yet, Anita. Just think, someone many, many years from now might just open up a wall to find these messages. Love this idea!

Such a great idea. When we built our house. I took old bibles and marked favorite protection and blessing verses and we wrapped the bibles in plastic bags and put in the foundation at each door before they poured concrete. You could also put a few in the stud work over your exterior doors before sheet rock is finished. I found several in the lost and found at church with no names in them. Nothing can come over the WORD?

My husband is a 3rd generation painter and not long ago someone told him about remodeling their home and found a wall behind wallpaper that my FIL had signed back in the 1950’s! So when we do work in our house, we sign the wall to…last time was doing a built in microwave. Great tradition!
