I know, I know, “Thou shall not covet.” But does that really apply to kitchens? I think “NOT”!
Okay, so if we can’t covet, how about a good, old fashion “appreciation”?
This is the kitchen I want. When we saw this house, I hated the location, but my heart stood still when I walked into this room.
The house languished on the market for months (probably because of it’s yucky location) and meanwhile I began to rationalize that maybe it COULD work for us. I mean really how much time would we really spend in our front yard staring at the decaying house across the street?
My kitchen would keep me warm at night.
After we toured the home, it went into contract for a few months, then suddenly it was back on the market.
I decided it was worth another look. This time, much of the furniture was gone. It took a few minutes for the situation to register. One TV here, the other one gone, one bedroom full of furniture, the other two were empty, the closet held only men’s clothing. All of her stuff and the baby’s things were gone. Even her photos were gone. Clearly this marriage was over. It seemed so sad.
Our realtor joked that we could probably get at least $10,000 off of the asking price due to the divorce. This time, although I still loved the kitchen, the house felt empty and depressing. We all felt the heaviness in the air.
Mr. CH asked if I would want to live in a house where the previous owners had divorced. I quickly answered, “It it gets us a good price, yes!” I was being flip, because the real answer was that I didn’t know. It seemed a little like buying a house, where someone had died.
I think we knew all along that this wasn’t the house for us, because of its location, but we I had a hard time letting it go. Mercifully, the house went into contract under our noses, and the choice was taken out of our hands.
I was kinda relieved to tell the truth when the house went under contract, but I sure do miss that kitchen.
Poscript to this story.
That contract fell through also, and the house went BACK on the market. The owners lowered the price and it is under contract again.

Anita,
That is a nice kitchen but there’s probably a reason the house felt empty to you, with the divorce and all of the previous owners=no love.
The perfect house is just waiting for you somewhere.
Vickie @ Ranger 911 says
Oh, the kitchen is stunning, but you have to follow your heart!

if it’s meant to be for you, it will work out…but if you are having those “hinky” feelings…follow your gut!
but that kitchen is gorgeous!!

It is perfectly OKAY to have kitchen envy. If you love to cook and entertain as much as I do, a kitchen in a house can be a dealbreaker.
As for the divorce, I would hazard a guess a good portion of houses on the market end up there as a result of divorce, so I would waive that as a dealbreaker. But that’s just me ! Gorgeous photos ! Thanks for sharing.

Oh so gorgeous!! Love the cabinets, the backsplash…swoon!

Gorgeous kitchen Anita! The divorce thing doesn’t bother me, because half the houses on the market are because of divorce. If your having mixed feelings, you ave to go with your gut!

I think I would be with your train of thought about the kitchen keeping me warm….lol.
Beautiful kitchen and maybe it will just inspire you to incorporate the best parts of it into whatever change you make in the future.
Have a great weekend

Too bad you couldn’t take that kitchen and put it in a house with a perfect location! It is stunning for sure. Hope you are well and enjoying autumn. Thanks for stopping by my FB page!

I have sold a house because of divorce and bought a house that was because of their divorce. It’s silly in this day and age when half of marriages end in divorce (or is it (60% now?) to make that a deal breaker. If it speaks to you and you love it, then it’s you’re happy ever after. We LOVE LOVE LOVE the house we bought because of a divorce from the couple who sold it. Go for it if it speaks to you!

What a beautiful kitchen Anita! We are toying with updating our kitchen and I dream of something similar to this.
Revi says
Yeah, if I could design a dream kitchen, it might look something similar to this one…I have always loved a white kitchen. The moulding and wood details warm this one up.
If this one wasn’t your house, I can’t wait to see what God has planned for you!

OMG Anita I could live and sleep in that kitchen no problem! I know what you mean about the feel in the air. We went to an estate sale recently where the homeowner said she was “downsizing” but we just knew it was a divorce and we felt awful. Did I get some great stuff? Yes. Will I ever forget how I felt that day? NO.
Dayle @ A Collection of This and That says
That is some kitchen. Wow!
Yvonne @ StoneGable says

What a beautiful kitchen! I do not blame you one bit for the envy you have for it. *sigh*
As for the house, well if it doesn’t feel like home when you walk in the door, then it isn’t home.
Hope you find what you are looking for with a kitchen as beautiful as this one.

It’s so hard when your heart wants one thing, and your head tells you something different! I have found that it’s never a bad idea to listen to the head 😉 But I also admit that that kitchen might have spoken to me loud enough to drown out the head!

True story: couple buy house selling due to a divorce, that couple end up divorcing, another couple buy the house, they end up divorcing, next couple come along look at the history of the house, say no thank you and are still happily married!
