Farmhouse Laundry Basket

By Anita 19 Comments

I have been seeing laundry carts/baskets like these for some time, and couldn’t wait to get my hands on one.

I love this basket and it holds a lot. I ordered the extra large not paying attention to just how large it was.

Okay now that you seen it “staged” with my grain sack pillows, here is how it is really used.

When my daughter’s bed is unmade, which is most of the time, we need a place to store the pillows.

I ordered this one from Antique Farmhouse.

As a kid, when we were ordering food, my dad always encouraged us to order the largest possible size of everything. (It’s a wonder I’m not as big as a house.)  I suppose that’s because he grew up during the depression, and went without for so long. It really was sweet that he wanted us to have what he didn’t have.  When he and my mom got married, they were both so skinny, that people used to say it took both of them to make a shadow.

On the other hand, Mr. CH was always taught to rein in his appetite   Since his dad was a minister, they were always on a budget.  When he was asked what size of ice cream or drink he wanted, before he could open his mouth to answer, his dad would quickly say, “SMALL!  He wants a small.”

So back to the laundry basket.  When Antique Farmhouse offered this piece in a small, medium, large, or extra large, I selected the EXTRA LARGE.  You knew that was coming, didn’t you?

It never occurred to me that extra large would actually be EXTRA LARGE.  I thought they were exaggerating.

Well if you are going to have a pile of pillows, it’s better to have them in a darling wire laundry basket than on the floor, right?

I wonder if I could train Brawn to use that for the pillows on our bed?

    No, probably not.

It’s fabulous! I found a similar one (probably a bit smaller and with a liner) from the Pottery Barn outlet. I love it to pieces! I’m actually using it as a laundry basket and I’m yell at my hubby when he throws in his stinky socks. LOL!

Extra large suits me just fine. I say super size it! lol! Seriously, it is darling. I have always loved them. We are finishing our basement, (almost done). I went for a farmhouse look. May need one if it comes around again.

Just remodeled my great room in a rustic/cabin look. Would like the dimensions of a small or medium size farmhouse laundry basket. I plan to roll up my throws that we use in our great room. I am always looking for something unique in my new room. If you could, e-mail pictures of the small / medium laundry basket at your earliest convenience. Thanks, Debbie!
