In case you missed it, we bought a retirement house in the mountains of North Carolina. You can find those posts by using the TAG MOUNTAIN HOUSE. We need to furnish it ASAP so we can do vacation rentals on it. That will help offset the expenses of the house, since we don’t live there now.
So I made a list of furniture I need HERE. This was a list of what we needed no matter what style we chose.
I created some PINTEREST BOARDS I used for inspiration.
You can find them below.

As I searched Pinterest, I began to think of what I wanted the house to look like. I found loads of wonderful inspiration. I would love to share my favorite photos, but again, there are copyright issues, so I’ll let you click on the links above if you want to see what I’ve been pinning.
We need a lot of furniture and we need it quickly and for a good price. BUT I didn’t want to just buy stuff I would regret in a year or two. So went to some of my favorite sources to find some things for the house.
After looking here is what I am thinking for furniture. I still love farmhouse French style and so I’m going to stick with my French theme. This will be slightly different because the furnishings need to hold up to lots of abuse. So here are the adjustments I am making.
First, I am not buying any delicate French chairs like I do at home. But I am using a few extras I have.
Secondly, I am going to avoid using whites and neutrals because they might not hold up well.
I needed several beds for the new house. I love this one I found at (affiliate link) JOSS AND MAIN. It’s pretty, looks sturdy, and was reasonably priced. I also had some Joss and Main credit that I used to buy the bed. This will be used in the downstairs bedroom.
We selected the bed below also from (affiliate link) JOSS AND MAIN for our bedroom. This was a super good buy!
I also need two twin beds for another bedroom. Because buying something ready to go would be cheating, (ha) I am making something. I bought two of these antique panels and somehow they will be transformed into headboards. Yeah, I’m not sure what they are going to look like either, but I’m going to give it a go.
UPDATE: My friend Peggy is giving me a bed of hers, so I’ll be using that instead for my daughter Elise’s room. It has a trundle, so that’s two beds for that room. I have two of these, and I’m giving one to Peggy. She needed a headboard only for a bed. I’m going to use the other one as artwork above one of the beds. I don’t have a picture of the bed she gave us, but you’ll see it soon.
And we need just one more bed. Since the guest quarters at our city house is now being used as my business warehouse, we aren’t using this bed. So it will be going to the mountains. This will become Evie’s bed.
For chests, I bringing these two lovelies from my guest quarters.
I bought 2 antique dressers that I haven’ picked up yet. They were a good deal, and quite charming.
For nighstands, I bought two of these for a good price.
For one of the bedrooms, I’ll use a stack of vintage suitcases that are left over from my booth. I also bought another little antique table with a marble top for another bedroom.
I don’t have great photos of the rooms, but here’s what I got when we were there a few months ago.
Here’s the master. I really don’t care for the paint in here, so I need to get a painter over soon.
The rest of the rooms are fine paint-wise.
Here’s the view again from the master. (This is why we got THIS house, the views.)
All of the bedrooms have this view.
Here’s the view from the lower deck.
I bought two chairs that I thought I would probably use in one or two of the bedrooms, but they need to be recovered.
UPDATE:
I just can’t decide on the fabric, so not sure if these chairs are going. Oh well things don’t always go smoothly. I found these at thrift stores.
I plan to bring these chairs below from my booth that didn’t sell.
And this bench.
And this gray chair
And this chair. This one has been on my porch and got pretty dirty. So I’m recovering it as soon as the fabric arrives.
Now another item I have left over from my booth is this bench.
Yes it’s a delicate little thing. I thought it would sell, but it too is a left over. Sooooo, I’m going to reinforce the seat and use it. No I would not buy something like this for a rental house, but I have it left over with no place to put it, so there you have it. I still can’t believe nobody bought it. I did get a lot of interest, but people wanted it for less than I paid. And that is why I’m keeping it.
I’ll also be bringing this gorgeous gray/blue trunk for one of the bedrooms.
I’m not sure what exactly is going where. I’ve got too much going on, but we’ll figure something out.
Also in case you missed it, I’m doing a DIY painting workshop on FEB 20th.
And I have a BIG SALE going on. Many items are being discontinued, so if you see something you like, grab it!!

I bought 2. Which one are you talking about? The wood one is no longer available. The iron one you should be able to find if you look for beds on the site. I don’t have the link.
Joanna says
The iron bed is called the Walsh. It’s still on the Joss and Main site and and for an amazing price.
Anita says
Yes, thanks Joanna!!!

What a great collection of furnishings and accessories you have chosen so far. I have the exact chairs (the floral pair) and I painted mine but have not recovered them. That is another project. I look forward to seeing the progress on your new home. The views are simply amazing.

Hi Anita, How fun to be decorating another home and I am sure it will be beautiful. Since it will be a a rental make sure everything is very durable and still expect some damage. We owned a beach house that we rented and I learned from experience not to have small accessories that can be broken or stolen and to permanently attach all artwork to the wall. It is a shame you have to do do this but necessary unless you want to be constantly replacing things.

Sounds like you’re well on your way! We live in the Mountains of NC near Boone – I think you will love your decision!
