Well, I love silver and thought that the ranch needed some. Okay, there was some silverplate there, I meant that it needed some more. Did I say that out loud? So, I was looking on eBay to see what they had in the way of silver-plate, when I saw exactly what I wanted, even better. I found some vintage silverware from the Harmonie Club in New York City. (We won’t hold that against them, hee hee.) I did some research on the Harmonie Club, and found this, click here. I just wanted to be sure it wasn’t some sort of cult or a bunch of crazies. The website looked respectable, so I decided to bid on the set, and won it. Why did I want this particular set of silverware? Look at the photo and see if you can tell.

That’s right the initials for Harmonie Club are HC, but when intertwined, it looks like it could be CH. So we now have our own custom silver for the ranch.

I truly love using my silver everyday, and that is why I bought several sets. On eBay, it is much more reasonable than any other place I have looked except local auctions, but that requires getting out of my pj’s.

Yes silver does tarnish and it can be a lot of work polishing it, but I learned at Leftovers (click here to see post) that tarnish is “IN”. I LOVE THAT!! Of course, silver flatware if used regularly (and therefore washed regularly) doesn’t tarnish much at all. Some silver care tips can be found by clicking here and here .

One of my most favorite things in the world to do, is sit on my back porch with a cup of tea using a lovely cup and saucer, and of course a silver spoon.

Who is the other cup for? You of course. And if you can’t join me in person, then maybe we can meet here on my virtual back porch.

What a find! I love that your silver (sort of) has your “initials” on it. Enjoy your tea!

I have a ton of that old silver too and am so glad tarnish is “in”!

Mary Ellen, me too. I just bought an old water pitcher that looked awesome or pretty bad depending on your take on tarnish.

How wonderful that the initials work in reverse! That’s really a nice touch for your table settings now. 😉

How fun that you found silver with a monogram that could be used for your ranch! Tarnish is in? Then maybe I should get my vintage silver flatware out again, hmmm . . .

Thank you so much for sharing this Anita! You always have such great ideas… I bought a box of silverware from Craigslist for $5 (plated of course) and need to think of things to do with it! I think it may be fun to create some sort of a display with the pieces.
