Elements of Summer Home Tour

Summer is such a fabulous time of year. I love the warm temperatures, and the flowers in the fields.  I love being outdoors, the gentle breezes, the lazy afternoons.

I love gathering flowers from the pasture in the morning, before the heat becomes oppressive.

Setting up outdoor meals is also a favorite summer pastime of mine. Although the evenings are usually too warm to eat outdoors, the mornings are just right, and sometimes if it is cloudy, you can enjoy a pleasant lunchtime repast.  Often we make a picnic and take it down to the creek.  With the sounds of the birds overhead, and the babbling creek below, it’s so relaxing, and soothing.

Country life has it’s own rhythms, so different from the city. Things here go at a slower pace.  You can take time to enjoy the sights and sounds.

es-chair-and-basket

There isn’t the urgency to go to and fro.  You feel compelled to sit, and soak it all in.  With the summer heat, things slow down even more.  No need to get in an hurry. It will get done, when it gets done.

Take a lesson from our girl Molly. She knows how to work hard, but still finds time for an afternoon snooze under the live oak tree.  Naps and herding the family, sum up her summer days.

Here time is measured in how tall the hay is, and how long the shadows are across the ground. We rarely look at our watch. It isn’t 2 PM or 6 PM, it’s daylight or it’s dark.  Things here are simple and uncomplicated.  I like that.

Ahhhhh. I was just telling the Mr. yesterday that the day felt so long. We slept in… and just let the chips fall. as relaxed summers day. To have a place in the country though, that would be ideal 🙂
    So pretty Anita.

It is a photo of our farm, but the barn in the distance belongs to our neighbors. I thought it made a great shot though.

Your country looks just right for summer. I live in the country out from a small town, and I am loving it. We lived in a larger house on a farm…and have downsized. Lovely photographs.

I downloaded the photo of your beautiful Molly. We are painting collies in our art class, and I needed a point of reference to get the coloration correct on the hair. All of your photos are incredible and your words are soothing and relaxing. Just the reminder I needed to slow down and enjoy the moment!

Anita, this is my first visit to your beautiful blog, but surely won’t be my last. I can so appreciate your laid-back, country-life way of living. Although I now live the slowed down life of a retiree in the city, my rural upbringing is still a treasured carryover. You photography is absolutely beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for sharing this glimpse into your life today.
