Well, if you have been following the posts lately, you know I have been sewing like crazy. The last thing to show you in my newly neutral bedroom is my new bedding. (Yes I know I just got a new quilt for the ranch, but this is the city. I am loving the creamy neutrals in the country so much, I decided I really wanted that calm clean look here too.)
I used about 10 yards of linen for the bedspread. Yes, it wrinkles… a lot, but that’s part of the fun, right? Mr. CH asked me what I was going to do when it wrinkled, and I said, “Look closely, it IS wrinkled.” Then he saw the many small wrinkles that somehow smooth out when the bed is made so they aren’t so noticeable.
I made very simple euro shams, since I was running out of fabric! But I wanted this to be a classic, elegant look. Here’s the before photo to remind you of just how red it was! I know it looks like the paint color is different, but it is exactly the same.
All of that bedding when the bed was unmade had to go somewhere, and that somewhere was my settee. That meant that the settee was completely unusable until the bed was made. Now all of the new bedding fits neatly into my basket.
Here’s some photos of the room now that is it calm and neutral. (And just in case Mr. CH is reading this, I did keep the old bedding just in case I get in a red mood again.)
The truth is that I was going to sell my Drexel Heritage triple dresser because I didn’t like it any more. Of course we would have gotten nothing for it, and we paid a fortune for it when we first got married.
But now, I love the dresser. Turns out it look so much better without the red, and the new lamps made a big difference too. (I moved them in here from a different room.) And I got the new mirror for Christmas from my mom.
Here’s a before of this shot.
Honestly I am so happy with this room, that I am ready to slipcover the whole house.

I cannot believe that is the same room. Looks refreshing and fabulous.
You have done a great job- it looks fabulous!
I love the new look. Okay, now we need a tutorial for the bed spread and shams.

Simply wonderful!!
You have inspired me to try my hand at sewing curtains and a new bed spread…
the search for the right colors and fabric continues!!
I too want to make this bedspread and shams. I live in a small town and am having trouble finding a true linen. I would like to know where you purchased your linen, the color, price per yard, how wide was it, and most important, is it 100% linen cotton? November 13, 2015
Lana, I don’t remember any more where I bought this fabric. It is 100% linen, and you should be able to buy it online. Width should be about 54 inches wide. It is not cotton. Be sure to get a swatch before ordering. You can try NY fashion fabrics online. I have bought linen from them before.
Anita, this is beautiful! I just love the wall color and it is so serene and soothing. It just looks great!
I love the new look! I also love that wardrobe I see peeking in too. If you ever need just a pop of color you can always fold something from the red bed on the bottom. Like maybe at Christmas or something. Also can’t believe you SEWED that all, that is a true talent.

Anita, your room is stunning. Love the new bedspread and how wonderful that you made it. You can spray the linen with lavender spray and all the wrinkles will go away by smoothing them out after spraying. Love the large basket. Is it the Hobby Lobby one?

Very pretty. I have a similar dresser (and bed and nightstands) in my bedroom. I’ve also been thinking of selling them, but maybe I just need the right bedding and accessories to make them fresh again. I just love that settee. Makes me smile whenever I see it!
Anita, You Rock! I love red, too, but this room is so cozy and serene and inviting. I’m 100 percent with you.

So much more calm and relaxing in the neutral! I have a red feature wall in my master that came with the house and I cannot wait to paint over it! I am so over red now. Love your makeover.
Could you show how you made the bedspread I would love to have on like this!
I absolutely LOVE this bedspread!!!! I would pay for the instructions on how you made it!!
I love your bed covering…you wouldn’t happen to have a tutorial on how you made that do you?
Not yet, but will try to do that.
Beautiful bedspread, do you mind sharing the pattern?
There’s no pattern, since every bed is a different height. I don’t ever use patterns, but that’s a great idea!!
Anita,
I have recently discovered your blog and love it! You have such great taste and execute it so well. In the article on the Big City Bedroom Revealed (I am catching up with the gems on your site), I love the creamy wall color and wonder if you could let me know what it is. Thanks so much.
Welcome Rhonda! That is my old house. We don’t live there any more. Oh my, I forgot what that color is. You can find more paint colors and other sources HERE.
Anita- I’m just starting a similar home makeover & slipcoverong everything like u have been (LOVE your living room slipcovers btw). Thank you so much for the settee tutorial- it’s the best I’ve found!!
Would you be willing to share the source for your lovely linen fabric? I read all the tutorials but don’t see it mentioned anywhere & love the color!
