Peggy’s Petit Fours

By Anita 22 Comments

My dear, sweet friend Peggy, this post is for you…

She knew that I love petit fours, so what did she do?  She stopped by and bought me some recently.  That’s just the kind of friend she is.

But it’s not what she does for me than means the most to me; I just love her for who she is, not what she does.

She always thinks I can do whatever I set my mind to, but she is pretty talented in her own right.

She thinks I’m awesome (but really she is the one who is.)

She makes me feel important and special, but she is the special one.

Everyone should have a Peggy, someone who believes in them.  And a lot of people do have my Peggy for a friend, but do they all appreciate everything she does for them,

Babysitting for neighbors when she can,

Having friends over that are going through a rough patch,

Being a “mom” to a girl who’s mom wasn’t there for her. Ten years later, she is still a mom to that teenager who is now grown up with a family of her own.

Sometimes I have extras for Peggy, an extra chair here, a lamp there, and when she doesn’t have a place for these extras, she is always suggesting someone she knows who really needs it.  Are they aware that she is always looking out for them?

When someone yells at her at the office, do they know how she bites her tongue so she won’t offend them?

When we are shopping, she is always thinking of who might want whatever bargain we find.

She offers to help neighbors, even when they don’t reciprocate.

She is always there for her daughter, taking her to doctor appointments even though her daughter is full-grown and capable of going by herself.  But she knows that it is a comfort to her daughter for her to be there.

She babysits her grand dogs all of the time, even knowing that one of them isn’t the best behaved.  (I hear she (the dog) was kicked out of obedience school.)  Peggy is one brave woman if you ask me.

Because of a situation that was beyond Peggy’s control she has had to start over financially in her 60’s; not something easily done.   But she has handled it with aplomb, working lots of overtime, saving her pennies,  doing without, on a modest salary, so she could afford to buy her house on her own.

She says that I bless her all of the time, but I am the blessed one.

One of my favorite times ever with Peggy was when she came over to the ranch several years ago, and it was just the two of us there.  We made a simple meal, and set up our table on the back porch and ate, and laughed and talked as the sun set in the western sky.  It was comfortable.  I’m just myself when she’s there, not entertaining, just having a good time, no worries that she will be easily offended, or require entertainment.  Silences are okay with her.

I love you Peggy!!

What a sweet post. I probably have a Peggy or two myself, but more so I hope I’m a Peggy to my friends.

OH — what a beautiful woman Peggy must be. I think that we all need a Peggy in our lives but she also inspires us (or I hope she does!) to be that kind of person in someone else’s life. Thank you for sharing your friend with us (now I wish I could share those Petite Fours!)

How special to have such a wonderful friend! Such a sweet post.

(One of my very favorite treats are petit fours… ironically enough, they come from a bakery in the city called Peggy Ann’s! 🙂 )

I just don’t even know what to say. I cried all the way through this post. I am blessed beyond measure to have a friend like Anita. She has prayed for me, been there for me, encouraged me, given to me – I cannot even begin to tell you all that she has done for me. May God help me to be the person Anita thinks I am.

    Peggy

P.S. – my grandpuppy has calmed down and is the now sweetest snuggler.

    P.S.S. – I love you too, Anita!

    Anita,
…and I love you for sharing Peggy with us! You could have kept her all to yourself, instead…your friendship is a subtle reminder for all of us to truly appreciate the people in our lives who bless us!!! May God richly and abundantly bless your friendship with Peggy!
    Fondly,

The best friendships are the ones where each friend feels that she gets so much more than she could ever give! My Peggy is called Katharine… she has been there for me in the saddest, but also the happiest days of my life!
    Great post!
    Warm regards,

I sat here and cried while reading that lovely post about your friend. I lost my “Peggy” two years ago to cancer and there is not a day that I don’t think about her and all of her wonderful attributes – how fortunate I was to have her in my life. Oh, how I miss her.
