I hope you are having a joy-filled Easter! On this special day I thought I would share a gorgeous work of art with you from my friend and artist Linda Shobe.
You have probably guessed the significance of the painting, but let me share with you what Linda said about it.
This piece is called BORN TO DIE. “Born to Die” John 3:16 For God so loved the world, he gave his only begotten son. This is the gift we did not earn. I have always been humbled by such a gesture of love. Seeing any infant, so loved by its parents, perhaps dressed in a baptism gown for his big day, makes me realize what God gave us.
For years I’ve had a fondness for ecclesiastical antiques, and when I found this old brass banner stanchion, tucked away in the dusty corner of an antique shop, I knew it must come home with me. someday it would hold something very special. I am usually at a loss to explain how I get my ideas for paintings, but when I got the notion of hanging a baptismal gown on the arm, I knew exactly which gown it would be.This is a family heirloom worn at a baptism in 1906. Just exactly who stitched this gown, is a fact lost in time. I would imagine a loving grandmother or aunt. I’ve even pondered about the design of the needlework. Could an expert identify the stitching as a common pattern from Scottish-Irish origins? Most likely, I will never know.
This art really spoke to me, and I thought you would enjoy seeing it today. Have a very blessed day.

In the catholic faith, we celebrate the sacrament of Baptism during the Easter Vigil service.
This is the holiest day of the Church year, when new Catholics are welcomed into the Faith.

I was stunned by the beauty of this painting the moment my eyes fell on it … and enthralled by the precious message the artist revealed in her description. I’ve spent half-a-lifetime collecting antique children’s clothing, especially christening gowns. If Linda would like, she can email me a detailed photo of the needlework on the gown, and I’ll try to identify the style and technique for here.
