Tour De Paint

By Anita 57 Comments

Yes I know you’ve heard of the Tour De France, but have you heard of the Tour De Paint?  Well, if you haven’t, don’t worry, it’s just something I just made up.

I need to pick out a paint color for our new house, so I decided to take a tour of the new neighborhood, and take pictures of the houses that had paint colors I liked.  We are building a craftsman style house, so the style will be similar to these homes.  Help me pick out the paint color.  I’ve numbered each house to make it easier.

Ready?  Buckle up, here we go.

Wait a minute, how did that one get in here???

9.

Just noticed this one looks like it is missing a column on the front porch.

Okay we’re back.  What do you think?  Be sure and vote for the color you like best.  You can leave your vote in the comments.  This should be fun!!  I hope you enjoyed the tour of our new neighborhood.

Here is a drawing of what our house will look like below to help you decide.

    Anita,
Alrighty, dear friend, you ask…I choose #11!!!
“Mr. Ed” and I toured newer housing areas when we were beginning the decision process of a new paint color for our 1970’s Ranch Style Home. Photos were taken, then off to the paint store for near to hue paint chips, followed by samples.
The one other thing that helped me decide between close matches …the name of the color. Comical, but I liked the name of our choice…Mark Twain House Bark!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

I liked 2, 3 and 6, Anita. It can be tough picking out an exterior color for your house. I tend to go the lighter route myself. Before we moved we had to redo vinyl siding on our house and went with a light tan. Here at the condo {where all the units are the same}, it is a light grey with stonework at the bottoms.

I like #3. We had a business in our town that wanted customers to vote on the outside paint color for their building (which sat at a stop light). They painted 3-4 colors on the side of the building and posted their URL.

It is neat that you are doing the same thing. Can’t wait to see what you pick.

I like the body color of #11 but the trim needs to be a little more contrasting like the color of trim on #1 and then maybe the black accent or red accent around the actualy window frame and doors.

I love 4 and 10. They both make a statement, not wishy-washy, very committed and I like that. I never like it when a house looks as thought the owner could not make a committment to a colour so sort of went half-way.

Why not do it the right way. If you are truly styling after a craftsman home, do the research on the originals and go from there. Problem solved!

I like # 6 the best. But I am not hot about white trim. My hubby was a painter and one of the places he did was the olive grey green like that with a darker green trim. It was lovely. I had picked those to be our colors if we ever got to paint our house. Sadly he passed away 2 years ago. But if I ever do get a chance to paint a house I will probably use those colors.

numbers 3 and 6 are my favs; I love sages with cream, not white. Here in town is the sweetest bungalow with two shades of light sages and cream trim. Sage is warmer than a true grey can be and in summer has a coolness about it under the shade trees. Love it

Gives it depth and interest, not so flat. In my opinion. 🙂 Good luck with your color decisions. How exciting!!!

I like #1, #6, or #9. Ha, ha. I moved from a grey house though and I did like it. Kind of grooving on the greenish colors. If we had built I was going to build a craftsman. Deicided to buy instead. Can’t wait to see yours as it progresses. I must tell you, there are two craftsman style remodels in our area that have used mustard and red. Sounds bizarre, but both are darling. I could go take pics and e-mail if you’d like.
