I believe good design is attainable at about any price point, but of course the smaller the budget, the more creative you have to be.
Having said that, I think it is important to find things that have lots of charm and appeal. I would rather have one great item in a room, than 5 blah things.
Let’s take a stroll around the bedroom, shall we? I want to point out 10 things that really add character to the room.
1. Adian Gray lamp
Although new, has loads of character. It was not cheap, but if you can afford it, is well worth the price.
2. Vintage wedding gown from the 40’s
This gown belonged to a family member which makes it that much more special. Even hanging a newer wedding gown in the room would add some glam and charm.
3. Antique pine armoire
Okay not going to lie here, this armoire is an antique and it wasn’t cheap because I bought it at an exclusive, chi-chi antique store. Now I buy antiques at auction and save a bundle.
4. Candle sconce from Ballard Designs (not a sponsored post, I just love this sconce.)
Again you can find something else cheaper, but this kind of character is hard to find and worth a few extra bucks.
5. An antique grandfather clock turned table
I found this number at the auction house. It’s the top to a grandfather clock, only someone clever turned the top into a little curio box with some little shelves. It has patina, storage, and oodles of charm. It was less than $50, so not a big expense.
6. Antique French laundry basket
Yes these are hard to find, but they have loads of character. If you can’t find an antique, look for a new one with a vintage look.
7. French antique settee from Craigslist
I know people are afraid of the crazies on Craigslist, but I have only met really nice, normal people there. Not everything there is a deal, but on occasion, there is a steal, and this was one of them.
8. Vintage hand mold
I really don’t know where you can find these any more, but this vintage hand mold was one used to make gloves. You can see it here holding my tiara. Yes I have a tiara, and if you don’t, might I suggest you get one right now!! I mean, really you NEED one!!
9. Craigslist lighting sconce
Are you getting my pattern? I don’t go to the expensive shops any more, I shop for great pieces with character in out of the way places that have great prices. This sconce is gorgeous in person, and I got it for a song. I just happened to be looking on Craigslist at the right time.
10. Porch balustrade turned lamp
I love things with character and this lamp was made from an salvaged porch railing. It was a little pricey, but was so worth it, I mean look at it!

So the take away from today lesson post is
Look for unusual things with character.
Look at resell, consignment, thrift stores, ebay, and Craiglist for bargains.
At at the end of the day buy what makes your heart sing, IF you can afford it.
The settee and the balustrade lamp are my very favorites, though I love all of it. French Love…..
I have never shopped Crags list before, but that settee is beautiful!
Oh my, so many lovely features! I just love the charming little settee, it’s wonderful! The little cups and saucers and sweet pitchers in your curio cabinet, would be mine in a heart beat if I saw them out shopping! Great post!
I so love your magnificent armoire and the gorgeous accessories in your room…You certainly have the key to success in creating the most beautiful rooms using exquisite antiques and wonderful finds from Craigslist and retailers such as Ballards to meld them together so beautifully. Have a great weekend!
You have some gorgeous pieces.

Love your room. It is so warm and inviting.
I have a mold of my own hand made in an awesome art class. Think outside the box!
Swooning over the armoire, settee, and the needlepoint chairs. 😉
I would love to see a picture of the whole room. These items were all wonderful and I can only imagine how good they would look together. Thanks for sharing.

Just curious: What are the dimensions of this room? FYI, my favorite WOW is the corner with the settee and the nesting tables. Beautiful!
