I talk a lot about design, I talk some about what is going on in my life, but I haven’t said much about myself. It’s a difficult balance, because like most bloggers, I don’t really care to talk much about myself, but then people ask, and I don’t want them to feel that I am not open. So I decided that today I would share a few less known, but interesting things about myself. None of this stuff is fit for a resume. It’s just goofy stuff that mostly just my family knows.
And here it is…
5 Fun Facts you didn’t know about me
1.In high school I had a pet raccoon, named Ewee. When he grew up, he became too vicious, and we let him go. If you see a raccoon, I not only don’t recommend them as pets, I would say they aren’t exactly friendly. Think of the scene in the movie Elf, with Buddy and the raccoon. That would be about right. Just enjoy them from a distance.
2. One day my mom came back from the beauty salon with a hairdo that she hated. She didn’t like it one bit. It was stiff upsweep like Mary Tyler Moore’s from The Dick Van Dyke Show, but didn’t look so good on her. I was three. I asked her, “Where did you get that hair?” She told me it was done at the beauty shop. I said, “Well it looks TERRIBLE.” She said she had to agree, but about fell out of the chair when I said that.
3. I used to pretend I lived in the 1800’s. It would work until my brother cranked up the Led Zeppelin. Here I am below, wearing a top that I made. I thought it looked kinda Victorian, well if you squint maybe.
4. When I was fifteen, my boss’s son locked me in the freezer at Dairy Queen (that’s where I worked) and said he wouldn’t let me out until I agreed to go out with him. After a ‘lively’ conversation, he let me out, and never brought up the topic again. I think he was afraid of me after that.
5. In junior high, I was convinced I was adopted and secretly searched for the adoption papers. I never found any, and at some point had to accept that these strange people were indeed my parents.
Well, there you have it. Any secrets you care to share with me?

Loved getting to “know” you through this post. I could’ve lived in a past era also. When my 3 daughters were little, they would take little buckets and pick the apples on the tree in our yard so we could make pie. They called each other Mary and Laura and Maw, and pretended they lived at the Little House. Maybe too much TV?

The ‘vintage’ photos of you are beautiful. You could have worked as a model!
I have a similar Santa photo, but I am wailing in mine.
My secret–hmmm–though I do not consider myself religious, I think I might have been a priest or nun in the middle ages since I am drawn to rustic gothic architecture/religious art (particularly love Giotto’s fresco style), so I’ve created the feel of an old rustic church with stone mantles, stone floors, faux stone walls and tapestries (or I could have been a peasant girl, living in a rustic cottage.) I don’t dare tell my gym buddies that see me as a runner/weight lifter about my fantasy décor life or that I love watching Little House on the Praire, The Waltons and Dr. Quinn any time I can catch them on! It would freak them out for sure!!
Thanks for sharing and giving everyone else the opportunity to share-it’s fun to get to know you and others and maybe figure out why we share similar interests and styles!

I enjoyed getting to know more about you Anita. I still like to pretend I live in the past…but I think I’m more of a 50’s housewife. BTW… you are a stunner!!!

Thanks for the coffeetime giggles 🙂 Oh to be young again….
I too was a precocious child. I always said exactly what I was thinking. Oh wait, I still do. 😮 Thanks for sharing the peek at the life behind the face… we should all do a bit of that from time to time.
Funny about the adoption thing… instill wonder about that. If it wasn’t the fact that I resemble my siblings I would run with the idea. I am so unlike the rest.
Happy weekend!
Hugs, Gee

I love this Anita!….and had to laugh at the raccoon and the Led Zeppelin anecdote . . I would day dream that I was a “lady” of a grand Southern Plantation (after the Civil War . . do not like conflict!) . . and wearing the grand dresses and living in a beautiful Southern Plantation on a river…then as you say, reality sets in … but I would hear “The Beatles”…Have a great weekend!

Cute story and I loved the pictures! When I was about 8 or 10 my Mom and her friend went to the beauty shop and took me along. A lady cut my hair while my Mom and her pal were gabbing, laughing and getting theirs done. Unfortunately the lady cut all my hair off an gave me a “pixie”. I was a scrawny little thing and I suddenly looked like a bird. My Mom screamed “Oh my God!” when she saw me which sent me into hysterics. Literally, I never had my hair cut again until I was in my 20’s. My Mom’s hair failure was with a box of dye and instead of dark brown it turned red/orange. She was a wreck about it but when my Dad came home he loved it and took her out dancing.

Fun facts! When I was a girl, I wanted to be Samantha of Bewitched…so, I’d jump off of my dresser and hope that I would fly, and practiced twitching my nose.
I used to sit on top of our slide and write stories and poems.
And my sister and I used to lay on either side of the stereo cabinet, our ears next to the speakers and sing at the top of our lungs along with the Anne Murray album…. I can’t believe it’s you, I can’t believe it’s true, I needed you and you were there…
Fun stuff!

Beautiful then and beautiful now!!! You really crack me up!!!
When I was little I just knew I could fly! I used to “practice” by jumping off the wall in our garden!
Love learning more about you my friend!

Beautiful pictures of you, Anita! When I was in grade school I used to tell people I had a pet raccoon … but it was just my stuffed animal. One day I had to fess up when the mean girl in class insisted on coming over to see my pet raccoon. I showed her my stuffed animal, she laughed, and we were friends after that. 🙂

Anita,
Thanks for sharing! Loved the raccoon story, my sister in law used to feed raccoons off the back porch (their house backs up to a wooded area) we called her Ellie Mae, she bought them special treats like Girl Scout cookies, she finally stopped when word got out and too many raccoons started showing up….it was scary but my kids thought it was soooo cool…ugh…
I also thought I was adopted as I was the only girl and the youngest of six kids…love how our little minds work!
Thanks for reminding me of some wonderful memories..
Sharon
