10 Simple Christmas Decorating Ideas

By Anita 13 Comments

I know what you’re thinking. It’s Christmas time and all of the bloggers will have over the top Christmas decor and you are going to feel like your Christmas decor looks lame. Well let me be the first to say, although I appreciate the over-the-top look, it just isn’t for me. I mean I think the blogger homes are gorgeous and I enjoy seeing them, but the reality is ‘it ain’t happenin’ here.’  I’m not a scrooge, I just want some very simple touches that don’t take a week to set up and then another week to take down. Okay maybe I am a scrooge a little bit. Did I actually say that out loud?

My philosophy is spend your money on beautiful things for your home that you can enjoy year round. Then add just a few touches during the holidays. If you’ve got a beautiful home, you just don’t need to add too much to make it look festive for Christmas.

Okay keeping that in mind, here are 10 easy ways to add Holiday touches to your home.

  1. Wrap a stack of books with ribbon and some greenery.

2. Add some boxwood balls. Here I added them to vintage trophies, but you can add them about any where.

3. Wrap some pretty boxes and leave them around your home.

4. Hang a wreath on a ladder.

5. Put ornaments in a teacup or bowl.

6. Hang mini stockings around the house. You can find these in my online shop, HERE.

7. Use bottle brush trees in your home. I have a few left HERE.

8. Put a bow on it. You can add a bow to furniture or other items in your home. I try to use different ribbon each year to keep things fresh.

9. Use greenery from your yard.

10. Use mason jars to make charming votive holders.

So I hope that helps to give you a few more options for stress free Christmas decorating.

I love the subtle Christmas decorating ideas! Pretty and festive, but you’re so right, won’t take a week of set up and take down. I won’t be doing a home tour on my blog because of that very thing, I have small things to add touches of Christmas about, but I don’t have the time or budget to go all out. Great ideas. Thanks for sharing and inspiring practical Christmas decorating advise.

Those are beautiful ideas. Thank you for sharing them. My (Irish) mother said that decorating the house when she was a child meant finding some holly outside and putting pieces of it on framed artwork. She said it was just as exciting for her siblings and her as all the elaborate decorations we put up here.

    Hello!
Love all of your holiday ideas especially the grabbing up of greens right outside our front doors. I have incorporated quite a bit of the “natural” look into our holiday decorating and you have provided so many more additional ideas.
    Thank you

I love the ladder in one of the pictures. Do you ever get a request in your shop for these ladders? I would live to have one exactly like the one in the picture, either 5-6 rungs.

    Thanks,

I have a few that I need to send to Heights Antiques on Yale. These are too large to ship.
