Treehouse Get-Away

By Anita 38 Comments

Remember when you were a kid, and you wanted a tree house?  So did I!!  It sounded so romantic and cozy.

And so when we built our very own treehouse at the ranch it was a dream come true.  I know I have referred to this deck as a creekside deck before, click here, but Mr. CH built another deck built further down the creek, and so we needed a better name for this deck. (I’ll share that one soon) so I’m calling this deck what I wanted to call it in the first place – A TREE HOUSE.  He said technically it wasn’t really a tree house since the front part of it sits on the ground.   He can call it what he wants, but I think we (meaning you and I) know what it really is… A TREE HOUSE.   The back part of the treehouse is a good 20 ft off the ground, thus its new name – Treehouse.

I love it down here. There’s a small waterfall below, and you can hear the water babbling all the time, that is when the trees aren’t rustling in the wind.  When we first had the tree house built, it looked like this.

What I’ve done lately is to paint the metal tables and chairs white, and I bought some umbrellas here.

I also brought the daybed down here from the back porch. Don’t worry I got a new bed for the back porch.

Then I made a daybed cover and pillows out of drop cloth for this bed.  The back porch daybed cover was made from linen, but I wanted a less expensive option for this outdoor room, since I wasn’t sure if the critters would leave my things along.  I borrowed the vintage grain sack pillows from the back porch and brought them down here as well; I knew you might want an extra pillow or two.

I love to take a nap down here where I can hear the creek babbling and the birds chirping.  It puts me right to sleep.

This was a fast and inexpensive project.  This daybed cover is a no  frills sew job.  As you can see the neck roll pillows are secured with simple twine. It’s been a little chilly lately, so I thought a quilt might come in handy.

And I also brought my binoculars and my bird book for birding.

But often I’m not awake long enough to look at birds.

We have new neighbors down our private road, and they finally came for a visit last weekend.  It was so good to meet them.  I know we are going to be fast friends, since we sealed the friendship with a toast down here, lingering for a long time, since no one wanted to leave.

Do you have a happy place? This is one of mine. We are out here year round. In the summertime, we come in the morning for breakfast before the heat becomes too intense, and in the winter, we like to bring a thermos of hot cocoa, cookies, and several quilts down here for some family time.  It’s amazing how much we warm up all snuggled together wrapped in a quilt and drinking hot cocoa.

Not too long ago I was down here on a perfect Fall day.  I so wish you had been with me.  I think about how much fun that would be.

We would have a cup of tea. You can have coffee if you like, but me, I’m a tea drinker.  We’d bring some of my homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies down here that I just made for the neighbors.  (Shhh… they won’t miss a few.)  Then we’ll talk about how much we love to be creative, and how our neighbors think we’re weird for having too many dishes, and how we love chippy things.  We’ll crumble off the corners of the cookies, telling ourselves we won’t eat the whole cookie, but we will.
We’ll finish each other’s sentences, laugh a lot, and sigh at the same time.  *sigh* #goodtimes

Absolutely LOVE your treehouse!! Oh yes, we would linger for a long time, eating the edges of your cookies, listening to the water, birds, wind and discussing which project comes next!! Isn’t it wonderful to live in Texas (not that this treehouse wouldn’t be great in other parts of the country), but our fall weather is perfect!! We’re loving our move to the TX Hill Country!! Do you have a firepit close to the treehouse for those chilly days?

Found your blog via Feathered Nest Friday’s link party. I love your TREE HOUSE! WE are practically neighbors since I live out in the country near Mansfield, TX.
Question: Is the TREE HOUSE at your old ranch or is it at the new house you are moving to?

Have become a follower…and invite you to check out Botanic Bleu’s blog and Botanic Bleu on Facebook. Come on over and stay a while. 🙂
