Tumbled Marble Coasters

By Anita 9 Comments

This project is for us Lazy Marthas, who like an easy, simple project. We don’t use a tablecloth on our antique table during meals, so I use trivets every meal.  (I know, I know, the table shown in the photo does not require coasters.  I just used it for the photos.)

Here is how I made these.  First, I went to the home improvement store to find some tumbled marble tiles.  I found them in two different sizes.  I used the 4×4 size for coasters, and the 6×6 size for trivets.  In case you want to try this, I looked online for similar tiles, and found the ones below here at Home Depot.  They cost $6.99 for 9 coasters.

I bought a roll of cork with adhesive backing at Michael’s.

Then I cut a square of the cork backing a little smaller than the tile.  I used the adhesive backing on the cork to apply the cork to the marble tile.  So the process is cut, peel, stick, repeat.

That’s it.  Oh man, am I tired; I think I need a snack!!

The tea set shown is Franciscan Desert Rose.  You can read more about my bittersweet romance with these dishes in A Tale of Two Dishes and the history of Desert Rose dishes in The Dish on Desert Rose.

Do you still use your tea set since learning of the lead risk?

I sold my Desert Rose dishes, so I no longer have them. I bought a new set of Spode Kingsley and I use the new teapot.
