On the Back Porch with Courtney of French Country Cottage

By Anita 24 Comments

I’m on the Back Porch today with another one of my very favorite bloggers, Courtney from French Country Cottage! I’ve always admired her easy French style and every time I see pink roses, I think of her.  I love copying admiring her style.  Let’s hear what she has to say.

Hi everyone!!
My name is Courtney and I write the blog French Country Cottage.   I am so thrilled to be joining Anita out on her back porch today! Anita sent over a few questions for me to answer~ so here goes!

1. Why did you start a blog?

I started blogging for several reasons really.
Shifts and changes such as my kids getting older and caregiving for my grandmother put me in a place where I was sort of looking for somewhere to immerse myself in something creative.

I have always been a writer and love beautiful rooms and interiors and vintage style and doing projects.
The funny thing is~ I didn’t even read blogs before I started blogging.

My sister and I were talking about blogs for some reason one day  and I thought it sounded like the perfect creative outlet for me. So that night~ I went online, registered my blogs name and just started blogging.

2. What was the most exciting thing that has happened to you because of your blog?

There has been several things that have been exciting for me because of my blog really

Having my home and style published in magazines has been a dream of mine for a long time, and when I first saw my home and style in print ~ I could hardly believe it was real. 🙂

I have recently started working as a freelance stylist and photographer with magazines as well.

Also working with companies and brands in social media and the opportunities that  have come from that have been amazing~ like traveling and blogging with brands I love.

When I started blogging I had no idea the doors it would open for me or how much I would love it.   Blogging truly has been a blessing in so many ways for me.

3. What is your dream gig?

Dream gigs for me~ let’s see.  I can think of several dream gigs really  I would love to do something with style and design and travel.

Yes, there are particular magazines I would love to be in~ one of which is my absolute favorites.  I  have some big dreams along the lines of writing and designing.

Not sure about a cooking show ~ but a show about decorating and DIY design sounds fantastic!

vintage florentine tables

4. What are a few things that readers would be surprised to find out about you?

Maybe readers would be surprised to find out that I am a vegetarian and have been for almost 18 years or that I am fluent in sign language.

5. How would you describe your style?

I mostly think of my style as Romantic French Cottage.  Which to me is a mix of the rich woods and warm colors of French Country~ The creamy whites and neutrals in Cottage rooms and the romantic ruffles, painted furniture and feminine details in shabby style.

My favorite rooms have a mix of elegance and rustic in their design~ A crystal chandelier & gilded chairs paired with a well loved and worn dining table for example.

5. What are your top 3 favorite posts?

My top 3 favorite posts would probably be these~ though I have several favorites and the favorites are always changing as I do new projects or change my rooms a bit. These are also some of readers favorite posts as well.

The before is a not for the faint of heart… so be prepared.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit me over here at Anita’s, and I hope you will stop by my blog and say hello sometime too!!

Thank you so much for having me over for a visit on your beautiful  back porch Anita!

Anita, your blog and Courtney’s, as well, are a couple of my favorite blogs. It was funny to see that she started her blog before she had even been a blog reader, because my experience was the exact opposite. I had become an avid “reader” long before I got up the nerve to take the plunge. I adore both your styles, both in writing and in decorating! Have the best and most blessed day ever.
