My Tag Jag

By Anita 22 Comments

I am loving tags these days.

Why? I’m not sure, but maybe it’s because as I little girl I loved to pretend that I had my own shop. Even as a adult I had the dream of having my own little store, so when I had the opportunity to work for a local furniture store I jumped on it. I wanted to know if I would like being there several days a week. Well it was fun, but I can tell you working there made me realize that I don’t want to own a shop. I’m so glad that God doesn’t give me everything I ask for. So… rather than owning a store, I think I’ll just stick with a few tags in my house.
Recently I saw the most adorable blue paper tags with black silhouettes on another blog, and I wanted my own!!  Well, never mind that I wasn’t sure how to make it happen. Then I found these tags at Pick Your Plum.  When the tags arrived, they were unfinished wood, so I spray painted them a cream color, then used silhouette stamps that I purchased at Joanne’s.

The stamps came in a set of three.

At first I thought one of the stamps was of a boy, but I guess I didn’t have my glasses on, since later I realized they were all girls.

I thought I would mix my stamped silhouettes with a real silhouette  from the 1940’s of my in-laws.
I think they go rather well together.
For this next set of tags, I used spray chalkboard paint.  I bought a spray can and a can of paint at Home Depot. I kept the can for future use.  Then wrote on the tags with chalk.  (Yes you guessed it, the CHR is for Cedar Hill Ranch.)

And my santos is wearing a reference to one of my favorite verses, Jeremiah 29:11.  Do you know what that verse is?  I thought you might.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Your tags are lovely and I am especially inspired by the chalkboard ones. I have the liquid type of chalkboard paint and I just may have to try this. Interesting story about working in a shop to discover you don’t want to own one. I’ve always wondered about that too. I am off work all summer and I keep telling myself that when my boys are older and don’t need Mom the chauffeur for all their 4-H stuff etc, I would like to try some part time summer hours in a gift shop.

The silhouette of your in~laws is a priceless treasure. I’m loving your tags, dear friend! Jeremiah 29:11 is the verse my co~teachers sent me off from Colorado back to Kansas with…for me a true treasure! Thank you for the reminder of this powerful scripture!

My baba held perpetual garage sales, so my sister and I spent many summer days “palying store” in her garage. I guess we never really outgrow the need to play once in awhile. Love your tags!

Anita! I love these tags and love the way you displayed them with the sillouhettes of your in-laws. You have a real gift for styling your photos. I always wondered what the wooden statue of the doll was called. My best friend has one on her mantel that I admire. While going through my mother’s boxes when she passed away, I found some cool sillouhettes that were made of me and my sister. They might look good in a frame hung on the wall hmmmmm.

Anita, love the idea of the chalkboard tags. I have some slate ones, but the lighter paper tags make more sense. Great idea.
I smiled as I read about you wishing for a store. I, too, always dreamed of owning my own shop. Then I volunteered at a hospital gift shop. Receiving boxes of Christmas items in July, unpacking them, checking inventory, pricing, then packing everything back up for storage made me realize that this wasn’t much fun. LOL
So guess it’s good we don’t always get what we wish for. ~ Sarah

I like the tags around the house idea. It’s like jewelry for your things. Plus like personalized things.
