We are making progress on the deck. I first did a post on the deck, here. It is essentially done. The contractor is just coming back to put in some additional supports to keep it from bouncing slightly as we walk across it.
My friend Caroline (Sweet Caroline) came up with me to check on the progress a few weeks ago. You can see her in this next photo…
NOT!!
Oh Caroline, must you be so camera-shy? I was only allowed to take a photo of her legs. Well really she said I wasn’t allowed to take her picture at all, but oops, I “accidentally” got a shot with her leg in it. Hee, hee.
Note the contractor’s creative solution to our view problem.
Instead of using pickets that would have obscured the view, he used this stock pen fencing. I think it works great.
Yes I need to bring a broom down here to get the leaves swept. I didn’t get that done, but I coaxed my fifteen-year-old to help me haul two tables and chairs down here. We had to use the UTV, since the deck is such a long way from the house. That’s my two daughters in the photo of our UTV.
Here are the tables and chairs that we women hauled down to the creek by ourselves. (Mr. CH was in town getting the lawn mover repaired.) With the 2 tables, 8 chairs and 4 boxes of yet to be assembled furniture, we had 4 trips down to the creek.
I think I am going to paint these black tables and chairs either a creamy white or a soft gray, like I used on these rockers, on my front porch. What do you think? My friend Peggy is voting for painting, but I am not sure which color she voted for.
I also have some benches and chairs I need to assemble. I got them from World Market on sale last summer when they were discontinued. Here are the photos on the (as of yet) unopened boxes.
I don’t plan to paint these. I also asked my contractor to make a swinging bed, but it hasn’t happened yet, so we’ll see if he has time to come over for that little job.
Well, that is where we are right now. I also have 8 dining chairs, a china cabinet on the back porch (oh yeah, can’t wait to show you that) and a few other MIL things I want to paint. I am hoping to have this deck up and running so to speak by November, when I have my prayer group coming over for some R&R. I think I am going to need a cup of tea so I can get moving today.
What a great place to relax that is! I can’t wait to see it all staged!

The deck looks wonderful!! I can’t wait to see your swing bed!
Way cool!!! Know you will enjoy it!

OMG! I am so jealous! What a great deck and an even greater view! Gorgeous! I can’t wait to see it all done up Anita-ized! Do you allow clutzy friends to come and put their foot, maybe broken, up? Your friends are so lucky. Great setting for a prayer meeting too.
What a wonderful space! I have friends here who have the stock fencing in a similar situation at their cabin. They made a large enclosed screened room of it, and it’s a sleeping porch about 20 yards from the cabin, connected via the deck. I think she’d love your bed swing idea! Can’t wait to see the finished product. IDK about anyone else, but I think the black tables and chairs look nice. What color will the other items be? I’m sure it will all become very clear when you get everything there! Yay for you! (And your Bible Study group!)

I love this retreat! I feel like I’m in the mountains of North Carolina! Are you sure this isn’t? Seriously, I love it and I think the swing bed is a fantastic idea!
What a wonderful setting – I bet it will get tons of use!
I kind of like the black myself, but I know the trend is to white… I can’t wait to see what you choose & the finished product.
Your deck is just gorgeous! I picture candlelight dinners out there 🙂
