Cozy Candlelight

By Anita 25 Comments

It was a cold night in Texas.  Of course the definition of a cold night in Texas is below 60 degrees F.

Any way, I wanted a cozy fire, but we didn’t have any firewood at the house, so I did the next best thing – I used candles.  I found a small piece of wood in the garage that was the perfect size to fit on top of the grate, and put several white candles on top of it.

It worked for me, since I wanted ambiance but not too much heat.

I have a DVD of a flickering fireplace, but real firelight (even by candles) is so much better.

My teenager came downstairs, saw the fire and said, “Wow!!”  She even stayed downstairs for awhile (Wow!)

All of the Christmas decorations are put up, so it’s time for a cup of tea and a good book in front of the fireplace.

What are you doing to unwind after the holidays?

So pretty! I am leaving my decorations up for a couple of weeks more, didn’t get them up until just before Christmas because we were overseas…now I really have time to relax and enjoy them! I may add a snowman or two, but for now it’s just right! Can’t wait to see what new projects you share with us this year!

There’s nothing like the ambience of flickering candles…unless, of course, its the flicker of flames in a fireplace. 😉

Hope to see you at Time Travel Thursday this week, Anita. Happy New Year!

    Anita,
Being the hopeless romantic that I am…I adore your candlelit fireplace! Still packing decorations away here On Crooked Creek. Where you are experiencing “cooler” weather ours is un~seasonably warm. I’m so~o~o ready for SNOW! Add a cup of tea and a candlelit fireplace and I’d say that’s close enough to Heaven , for me!
    Fondly,
    Pat

I did candles in the fireplace before. Such a pretty look. Very cold here for two days and our heat isn’t working right. Back to 60 by this weekend.

What a warm and cozy post. I love your candle ‘fire’. Well, a gals gotta do what a gal’s gotta do… if you have no wood, candles will suffice.

We have gas logs so can turn a fire on or off at will, but I like this idea. This is perfect when one doesn’t want the heat of a fire. And as you say, here in TX that’s more often than I’d like. LOL
Reading – that’s what I’m doing a lot of post holidays.

I love that look of candles in a fireplace! Plus, it’s very safe. We occasionally get our cold night or two here in AZ too!
