I know you don’t do nutty things like this, but I do. I bought a roll of chicken wire last summer, and I had no idea what I would do with it. It sat in the garage for almost a year before I found a use for it.
I had recently decided that I no longer had room for all of the extra frames in my house. They are left overs from my photography business days. So I came to the decision that I would use the frames or get rid of them.
This is a wood frame; the frames you find these days are usually made from resin. I didn’t photograph the process of stapling the chicken wire to the frame, since it seems self-explanatory. I took the chicken wire, cut it to size using tin snips, and used a staple gun to staple it in place, pulling it taunt as I went around the frame.
I used photos from my MIL’s house. Mr CH loves this project.
A. I used photos from his family and
B. It was a zero cost project (the chicken wire was sitting around and the frame was no longer being used to hold a photo.)
That adorable little house, was his grandparents’. Even the clothespins are vintage, since they also came from my MIL’s house. Below is a photo of the family and possibly the neighbors.
Here’s Mr. CH’s dad carrying his mom over the threshold, long before there was a Mr. CH.
And there’s Mr. CH’s mom. She was quite a hottie in her day. I have those pearls she’s wearing too, BTW.
This bulletin board is just part of the changes I made to my dining room. Come back later to see my French chairs from the antique auction and and other French touches I made to my room. I am so pleased with it, and it was done on a tight budget.
This is fantastic, Anita, and the old photographs fit in so well with the look. Wonderful old pics they are too. Mr CH’s mother was definitely a ‘hottie’ she looks beautiful in that close up shot, and the one with his father carrying her over the threshold is lovely. Thank you for sharing.
OMG this is fantastic! What a great project. Love the family photos too!
Love this project, Anita! Can’t wait to see your dining room.
Adore the project, Anita! The pictures are such sweet treasures! Yes, you MIL was a hottie!
What’s not to love about it. Cute, clever, with family mementos. I had chicken wire sitting around for 3 years, and darnit if someone didn’t get chickens to go with it!

Anita, this is lovely! The old family photos are perfect for the frame! What a great idea and I love the vintage clothespins! These photos are priceless! Thanks for the inspiration!
I adore this idea! I love old family photos and am always looking for an interesting way to display them, without taking up every single flat surface with frames. I will have to give this project a try! The photos are so sweet! Can’t wait to see the updated room! Thank you for sharing your creativity and inspiration! Hugs, Leena
I love your framed chicken wire photo frame. Nice way to display lots of family photos in one place.
That wire is wicked to work with, though. The last time I used it for something, I looked like I was in a cat fight! I suppose it would help to wear gloves and a long sleeved shirt. :@
Looks great! What a sweet way to display family photos.
Love it Anita!!
Love it. I almost bought a roll of chicken wire a few months ago. I spied it at Ace Hardware while I was waiting for the nice man to mix my free paint. I really wanted it, but couldn’t really justify the expense (I WAS there for FREE paint, wasn’t I?) I still wish I had bought it. There’s always next time:) Your photos are priceless.
You have done a fantastic job- I have been meaning to do one of those with my parents old photos too!
LOVE this and the old photos are awesome!
What a terrific, useful project. Great idea!
Great idea! And I love your old family photos! I got a large old frame from the auction a couple of weeks ago, and this would be a wonderful accent for my daughter’s dorm! Will have to “borrow” this idea! 🙂
I love it, Anita… the perfect place to display special photos!
OH I love this!!! I have been trying to find something unusual to do for our master bedroom and this is it. I hope you don’t mind if I borrow it?
Have a wonderful weekend.
I love it like crazy! I love chicken wire decor and this is going to fit perfectly for me in my home. Thank you for sharing your idea.
Blessings,
Darlene
I love old family pictures..they tell such a story. I always say good morning to my ancestors as I come down the staircase..they line the wall!
I love how the frame turned out. I have some plans to work with some chicken wire myself one day.
Have a good night.

So Cute love it! Great project!

Anita, What a fabulous vintage styled project! I am going to copy this idea… I love it so much!
Please add TUTORIALS TIPS AND TIDBITS to the list of great linky parties you visit and bring this great DYI to TTT this week.
I have an old beat up wood frame and and it would be perfect for this project!
Anita you’ve done it again! Love what you did with the chicken wire frame! It holds such wonderful memories. I’m sure CH loves it! You are always thinkng outside the box! Now if a little bit of your creativity could rub off on me that would be awesome!
I just arrived at your ranch and will be staying awhile.. what beautiful photos and what great ideas. Being a huge fan of old photos, I think this is wonderful!
Anita,
Thanks for this adorable project for chicken wire. We, too, recently purchased an entire roll for the kitchen cabinet doors. I have another project (which I may share via a blogpost)using chicken wire for the out of doors! I l o v e how you used vintage family photos!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Anita, I’ve had chicken wire on the brain for some time now and I don’t know why. I don’t have any and I don’t ever see it anywhere, but I love seeing what you did with it, esp. using your husband’s family photos. What a sweet way to honor him and his family. Those black and whites are such sweet momentos. I love the one of his dad carrying his mom over the threshold. You just don’t think of getting someone to take that photo these days. Having a shot like that of my parents would be priceless.

That is a brilliant idea. Love it.
Beautiful — and a grand way to display those grand photos! I love that little house — isn’t it amazing how many people they crammed into small houses in those days? We are truly spoiled!
I love this Anita, what a cute way to display old photos.

Oh how I love the look of chicken wire and a frame. It’s gorgeous! And yes, your mom was quite the hottie. =) Coming over from Between Naps on the Porch, and your newest follower.

Wow, this is an easy and lovely project, and you have beautiful family photos too!
What a wonderful project! I love all of the photos you used. I think I need to go through my grandma’s old albums to find some treasures. Thanks for the inspiration! So glad you linked up at Etcetorize this week~
What a wonderful project and beautiful collection of photos!
What a lovely idea.. I have some old
family photos, 2 old frames and some
chicken wire in the shed.. will be making mine soon…
I like how you spray painted the chicken
wire also..
very nice
Sandy
I have a chicken wire frame in my home that I love, but found that after a while the edges of the photos started to curl.
Love the pictures! Mr CH’s mother is so pretty. Love that she gave you her pearls. I was just going through a vintage suitcase that my Dad kept many of his pictures from WWII. Found some great pictures and some “Hottie” pictures of my Mom! You’ve given me a clever way to display those photos.
Could also use in a guest room with pictures of friends from their visit.
Thanks
Love the chicken wire in the frame. Getting it taut would be a challenge.
