Candlesticks Three Ways

By Anita 30 Comments

Have you ever redone your redo?  Me too!!
Remember good the ‘ole, now defunct Bombay Company?  I bought these candlesticks there years ago, since I loved the shape, but I what I wasn’t so crazy about was the color.
I was looking for something with a more distressed look, so I painted them white with homemade chalky paint, and then covered the paint with Annie Sloan’s dark wax.
I liked the new look better, but somehow, it still wasn’t right.  Then I decided to go over the candlesticks again with homemade chalky paint, click here for my homemade chalky paint recipe.   Then I distressed the finish by lightly sanding, and applied a clear wax finish.  I also, removed the old green candles, and replaced them with white ones.

BTW, the wooden cheese board the candles are sitting on is a recent purchase from Tuesday Morning.

Since I already had the supplies and the candlesticks, the only additional cost for this project was for purchasing the three white candles.  I do love a simple, low cost make-over.

Hi Anita, love your candlesticks. I just did the same thing a couple of weeks ago and put bird houses on top. Great minds think alike. Hugs, Chris

Anita, you are clever to just change these up to fit your current style preference. I also miss Bombay Company.

    Anita,
Once I was frightened to do a unique color on a small painting project…until a dear friend said, “It’s only paint. If you don’t like it, you can change the color by RE~ painting it!” Wise Woman!!! I loved the color! I adore what you did with your candlesticks. I liked the dark color…but I’m loving the white!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

I am famous for my re do’s! Your candlesticks turned out pretty! However my favorite was the dark wax. But I am a traditional decorator! I decorate with a lot of dark woods.

They look great! Isn’t it wonderful how you can get something ‘new’ for the cost of some paint.

Your revamped candlesticks look good both before and after. I’m really happy to see how dark your “before” wax looked, as I am going to work on a project this a.m. that I need to make darker with wax and wasn’t sure how dark I could actually get it to look. Also, thanks for the heads up on the homemade chalk paint. I would have used p.o.p since I have some already. Hugs, Kim, have a great weekend!

The white is by far my favorite! And isn’t it funny that you ended up liking the one with your own paint recipe the best? I’m working on a wooden plate similar to yours, maybe one day I’ll actually get it done.

Love the pretty redo Anita! I am a bit partial to the chippy white these days though my house doesn’t seem to have much of it yet.
