A Fresh Bouquet of …Hats?

By Anita 27 Comments

I have a large French basket and needed to fill it with something.  It’s about 3 ft. tall, so I needed something that wouldn’t get lost in the basket.

I used to have silk flowers in it, but was ready for a change.   I thought about what I could put in it.  Someone suggested baguettes, but really, I didn’t want to start shellacking bread.  I had lots of ideas, but most everything looked weird in the basket, until… I thought of my straw hat collection.

I wondered if they would work.

Yes, they would!!  I put some yard sticks in the basket to hold the hats in place.

Then I decided to add this bit of lace to the basket.  It is actually a vintage hand towel with a hand-crocheted lace that I stuffed into the basket.

Our fireplace sits between the breakfast room and our living room, so this basket actually hangs on the side of the fireplace.

I think it turned out pretty well, and the best part is that I just shopped my house, so this redo cost me nothing.  I already had the basket, the hand towel and the hats.

With the money I saved, I may need to treat myself to a pedicure!!  (Hee, hee, I knew YOU would understand my logic.)

    Dear Anita
Great idea to decorate with hats this basket. Seems to give a touch of mood to wear it and get out a nice walk.
    Have a nice month
