Hi, my name is Mary Alice from Chateau Chic. I’m delighted to be chatting with Anita on her back porch today!
1. Why did you start a blog?
When our last child left the nest for college, I became more intentional about following a few favorite blogs. At the time, I had been renting space in an antique and home decor store, and selling under the name “Chateau Chic” since my style leaned toward French country. After leaving that shop the end of December 2011, I took the plunge to start my own blog in January 2012 not knowing where it would lead.
Of course, being asked to guest post on someone else’s blog is such an honor and privilege. When I started my blog, I also never dreamed it would be featured in Romantic Homes Site Seeing section.
Right now, I love what I do…opening my home and sharing my simple decorating ideas with others who love to nest. Once again I’m selling out of a new antique shop called Rust and Feathers. I love the hunt to find unique vintage furniture and accessories for my buyers. Another perk of selling is all the wonderful people I get to meet, customers as well as shop owners.
None of us will ever forget the year all the women and children were evacuated because of so much political unrest. The U.S. sent in planes to take all the Americans out of Haiti. I’m sure the moms were tense about leaving their husbands behind, but it was an exciting adventure for us kids to get to fly in a big jet with all of our friends along.
I’m all about details…layering, stacking, and collecting. Sprinkling in vintage French pieces and accessories makes me smile.
One of my favorite blog posts is my Restyled Family Room. I joined a linky party that challenged bloggers to change a room using items they already had. I made some major changes in my family room, loved it so much that I’ve kept its new arrangement.
Another favorite is Welcome to the Back Porch. This is my favorite spot to relax come spring all the way into the fall until it gets too cold.
