Hi Cedar Hill Ranch friends! I’m Roeshel from DIY Show Off. I’m so excited to be hanging out On The Back Porch with you today! If we haven’t met, it’s so lovely to e-meet you and if we have, I know you’re sharing my joy in getting together with Anita.
Six years ago, I started blogging to journal the transformation of our new-to-us old fixer upper. When I discovered that there were others who shared my passion for do-it-yourself, I created DIY Show Off as a way to not only share the DIY in our home, but to encourage others to share (or as we call it, “show off”) their creativity and hard work too.
Blogging has blessed me with so many amazing opportunities, I wouldn’t know where to begin. From working with brands that I love and use regularly to traveling, magazine features, to earning an income…all amazing experiences! But really for me, the most exciting part is making friends with the same addiction..uh, interests. I have few friends in real life who are as obsessed with DIY, decorating and home improvement. Cheesy but true: Chatting, encouraging, supporting and connecting with others who ‘get’ me has been one of the biggest perks of blogging.
I love what I do and I do have dreams but I also find comfort in knowing that I’m right where God wants me to be.
I’m actually pretty quiet so nothing crazy exciting to report. Readers and blog friends are always surprised to find out that I’m 43 with two grown daughters. At 19, I was a young mother and I guess if I could change things knowing what I know now, I’d have started my family much later. Despite the struggles with being a young divorced mom, we all survived and I’m so blessed to have very close relationships with both of my two girls. I also rather enjoy our empty nest and freedom that I didn’t have my entire young adulthood. Those tough times and tight budgets challenged me to be creative…every experience has made me who I am today and given me the opportunity to be where I am.
One word: Eclectic. I just do what I love. I spend more time in my home than anyone else in the world so it only makes sense that I decorate in ways that work for us. I don’t follow rules. And my style changes often. Doing what I love, what reflects our personalities, interests and lifestyle and surrounding ourselves with things we love is what makes our home comfortable and beautiful to us.
6. What are your top 3 favorite posts?
My favorite is usually whatever I just recently completed. When we started our kitchen makeover, I could be found propped up against a wall on the floor, sitting there looking around at the room we changed from ugly to pretty. I could even sleep in whatever room we just finished, soaking up the happiness. Okay, not really. But each time we transform a room, it’s my favorite for a good long while.
If it’s a thrifty treasure or repurposed makeover, I’m trying it out in every room, playing life-sized dollhouse. I re-decorate nearly every time I clean. It’s my motivation. So giving a thrift store find a new life is always rewarding.
And with it being summer, I’m enjoying our barn/covered patio now that it’s not such a scary place to be.
Thanks so much for visiting with me here On The Back Porch with Anita. You also have a welcome invitation to visit me at my home at DIYShowOff too. The door is always open, guests welcome and I’d love to see you!
See what I mean? She’s a sweet heart!!
