Today I have quite the celeb on the back porch with me. Okay, he’s not really here, he just answered my questions via email, which is a total bummer for me, since I think he is so ADORABLE!!!
I’m talking about David Bromstad!! I can’t imagine you don’t know who he is, but just in case… David Bromstad is the original winner of HGTV Design Star, which led to his gig as host and designer on his first hit series for HGTV, Color Splash. David completed more than 100 makeovers for Color Splash around the country including San Francisco, New York and Miami.
David has also appeared on HGTV programs including HGTV’d, HGTV Showdown, Bang for Your Buck, and more. Here is the interview.
1. How did your life change when you won HGTV’s Design Star? (I know old news but I have to ask.)
It changed everything. This was the beginning of my career. My own show, my partnerships, my design company. This is where it all began. My entire life was changed in an instant.
2. What is the most exciting thing that has happened to you as a result of your HGTV superstar status?
I am super excited on so many different levels. I have my own interior design company that started, a list of fabulous partnerships and license deals, a bedding and bath collection, and some other amazing partnerships that are in the making. It’s been an incredible journey.
3. You are doing so many things with HGTV and your own product lines these days, can you share with us a little bit about what you have going on right now? (The list makes my head spin!)
I have been super busy and there is never a dull moment in the Bromstad world. So just to give you a little taste…..
My latest project is very exciting! Aside from my residential design projects currently underway, I have recently signed on as a Design Consultant for River Landing Project. River Landing is a significant real estate development in Miami’s Urban Core containing 537,000 SF of retail tenants and 444 residential units designed to serve the employees and students on the Miami River front.
I have also recently launched my collection of bed & bath products with global textile manufacturer, 1888 Mills. The collection is currently available on amazon.com and Meijer stores nationwide.
Finally, I am venturing into the world of fashion and accessories, but you will definitely have to stay tuned for that. It’s going to be fantastic.
4. Are you still painting and if so where do you sell your artwork?
I am always painting. It’s my passion! I continue to add to my current art collection, which is really exciting. You can purchase prints at Penny Lane Publishing or large format wall murals fromMuralsyourway.com. In addition, my art has been licensed for bar ware and accessories with Thirstystone.
5. What were a few of your favorite design jobs and why?
One of my favorite projects that we completed last year was to design and curate the ultra-luxe dining room in Santa Monica’s now-notorious ‘House of Rock’ in September 2012. It was an amazing opportunity to showcase my work in a completely different way. The design was over the top.
6. What is your personal style for your home?
My own home is eclectically modern with a touch of whimsy. Its a very casual place with moments of delicious fun and the perfect amount of color to make a strong statement but very livable.
7. What is something readers would be surprised to learn about you?
Although I am in the social scene a lot and I have a ton of energy but I really am a low key individual. My perfect day is going to the beach and gym with my partner or staying home on the couch with my dogs and watching movies. I love to be home and I love to just chill out put my feet up and veg!
Thanks David!! All of the rooms he does are so full of personality!! I love that. Did you miss any of the other interviews? You can catch up here.
